Last Friday
magahoodon 14/08/2017 06:13I enjoyed my stay at the 1896 House Brookside last week. The building is not modern, but I could see that the owners were trying to keep it right up to date and comfortable.
The room was a little musty smelling; older building in a damp location. We were furnished with air freshener. The TV remote had disappeared from our room?, but we we quickly got a new one from the front desk. I liked the innkeeper, Kennedy; really nice girl. The bed was very comfortable. I enjoyed the '6' restaurant. The breakfast was really good; the server did a nice breakfast, scrambled eggs and bacon &. We had been to the 1896 and the '6' before, but it was years ago.

JerseyTMon 14/08/2017 03:24Average not compared to the usual plastic box, but only average for a $300 plus hotel room. We stayed in one of the special barn rooms here. Nice enough room, large space, antique furnishings, king canopy bed with nice firm mattress. But internet speed about 2.8megs with frequent drop offs. No bottled water available. Tap wasn't noticeably chlorinated, but my wife disliked the aftertaste. Breakfast was included and involved a nice French toast with blueberries, but the only eggs available were hard boiled off the buffet. And breakfast only available 0830-0930 on Sunday morning. It was a special weekend for us and we'd hoped for more.
Disappointing Underwhelming Musty Property
1Molly5on 13/08/2017 23:38Disappointing Underwhelming Musty Property. Stayed at Pineside location. When multiple review were's tell you that the property is musty, believe them. Property could be great with a little bit of care. Room was tired and worn out. The pool was dirty. Would possibly not have been so disappointed if the advertisement/website weren't so over-the-top about the charm of the property. Miriam Webster defines charm as compelling attractiveness. The1896 house could better describe itself as "formerly charming, now rather adequate".
Quaint Berkshires Get Away
Axgiggleson 10/08/2017 13:08The hotel is adorable and exactly what I wanted and thought a Berkshires hotel should be. The room is dated and smells a little musty but that wasn't a problem for me because that's what I expected. The brook was lovely and the chairs to sit on to relax was a great touch, as were the rocking chairs on the porch. The breakfast at the pub was plentiful.
Very enjoyable stay.
D6754JIjerrybon 09/08/2017 14:20We had a noise issue with the first room due to a defective ice machine. When we mentioned the situation to the management they upgraded us to a suite which was very nice. Great customer service! Feeding the ducks and sitting by the outdoor fireplace was very relaxing. Food was very good.
