Stunning location; underwhelming hotel

You pay for the location here, which is absolutely awesome. The hotel itself is unfortunately not. The efficient staff on duty during our one night stay did try to be friendly (especially the waitress) but were really too busy and to non-German speakers would appear abrasive - they are not as bi-lingual as the information makes out. The room rate is expensive for the compact sleeping quarters and bathroom with tiny shower and thin towels - but you get dinner and breakfast included. That breakfast was not bad but dinner was a set menu and the only thing really nice was the spaetzle. We were offered a cheese plate, however, when we declined the dessert of figs, and of course cheese is good in Switzerland. There was no a la carte menu, there is no bar or comfortable lounge to sit in and admire the view. No luxury of any kind. We were not made to feel welcome as we checked in and nobody asked us if we had enjoyed our stay. This is a basic hotel, with too few under-trained staff, but in an amazing location. We were very disappointed. It could be so much better.

Fantastic, Beautiful

Incredible place. If you find yourself in Zermatt/Gornergrat, you must stay here. Let's start with the basics: exceptionally clean rooms, well maintained building, great dining and service. The views are nothing short of breathtaking. There is a fun hiking trail behind the hotel that offers amazing views. The staff is more than polite and courteous; they go above and beyond in every respect – specifically, Andreas was incredible during our stay. Cannot recommend this hotel enough.

The stay was great. Rooms and hotel public areas are clean. Internet was exceptional.It also offers an amazing view of the alps and the glaciers. The hotel personnel were multi-lingual and very attentive especially those who were working in their in-house restaurant. It's worth mentioning these two guys in the restaurant. It seems like he's the team leader and the other man who made his way before up to Matterhorn 😊

It is a great Hotel with wonderful views of the Matterhorn, it's personal is so kind, we were there to celebrate our birthday and they received us with a glass of champagne, the dinner and breakfast (included) was delicious and the views at night and in the morning were spectacular. Waiters and reception were so kind and helpful.

Amazing once in a lifetime experience

Disclaimer: I proposed to my girlfriend here and the place and experience was everything I had hoped for. This was our first time staying in a luxury hotel of this caliber and I definitely plan on coming back sometime in my lifetime.

The hotel location and ambiance is simply something I have never experienced before in my life. The location is set on top of the alps with amazing views in every direction. The deciding factor to stay here was that the hotel seemed like a good value and would offer a much more unique experience than staying at one of the hotels in Zermatt.

I felt like the staff went above and beyond what they would have been required to do. The receptionist helped me several times before my stay, during my stay, and even in the middle of the night when I realized my converter stopped working. I cannot thank the staff enough for their help.

The hotel is very high up (which is part of the allure) so you will need to prepare yourself for the potential of getting altitude sickness. In our opinion, its a small price to pay and there is really nothing the hotel can do it about. Its more of your responsibility.

The food is average; however, the food in Zermatt wasn't mind blowing to us either so it could have been that were not huge fans of Swiss food. A benefits is that a dinner and breakfast was included in the price of the accommodation making it much more affordable compared to the hotels in Zermatt. Our waiter was very kind and made us feel very special.

No complaints with the hotel room. An interesting fact is that each room is named after a mountain peak that you can see through your window and the room has a little information on the peak as well. The comforter was very nice and allowed us to have a great night sleep. The hotel also provides plenty of complimentary items in the room.

The weather is obviously something out of everyone's control. A perk of staying at the hotel is that you are little more immune to it since you can wait it out. If you only had a couple of hours at the top then you are more at the mercy of the weather gods. If we ever became cold we just went inside to our room and warmed up for a little bit. If the Matterhorn was foggy, we waited until we had a better view. Ultimately, the weather was surprisingly not as big of a deal as I had initially worried.

An unexpected feature that I enjoyed was after the last train left for Zermatt. The place suddenly became very quiet and intimate. Since there are only a few rooms and we did not interact or see a ton of hotel guest, it felt like the entire place was reserved for us. Our hotel key allowed us to explore the area in solitude even at 3 in the morning because I wanted to take a look at the stars. The exclusivity added a vary romantic touch to our stay. Also, as we were leaving, we noticed that the hotel has several board games and books that are available for use in case you become restless.
