Over-hyped property for stay w.r.t Chandigarh H.O.G
Amandeep Son 20/08/2017 08:40We, a 15-20 members of Harley Owners group, Chandigarh visited this property in the month of august and found out to be pretty average stay w.r.t money these guys charge.
Pros of staying at Aamod, Dalhousie:
1) nice rooms with an average view.
2) playroom with facilities like TT, carromboard etc.
3) good food
4) nice common deck/place to sit and enjoy the evenings/mornings
5) being situated at khajjiar road, aamod is away from Dalhousie crowd and chaos of city.
Cons of staying at aamod:
1) poor hospitality services. The service boys r too rude to ask for any service.
2) time bound facilities hence spoiling the holiday mood.
3) a big no for night party/music setup.
4) food is only available till 11pm
PS: A Good location with a Poor quotient for Hospitality. We as HOG will think twice before coming to this property again

saunak2014on 02/08/2017 04:27One of the best hotels that I have visited as far as mountain view is concerned in India.Lovely place to relax and look around the surroundings.Watch the birds especially in the morning.Take your buffet breakfast in the open air next to the restaurant.Rooms are fairly good and comfortable with a nice balcony where one can sit down and enjoy a cup of tea. However bathroom toiletries are not replaced in time, this should be taken care of instead of waiting for reminders.Food is ok, though there is a lack of choice and the items are mostly North Indian based. The management should cater to an all India menu and must include continental dishes.Over all it was a good experience, would strongly recommend for persons who require a quite stay far away from the din and bustle of city life.
Heavenly ambience, but not without its share of demerits
Rajat Mon 15/07/2017 14:27Aamod at Dalhousie is easily the best option to stay at/around Dalhousie, considering the picturesque location and elevation (7500 ft). The scenery changes every moment: once you can see the mountains in their full glory, and the other moment their visage is completely covered with a dense cover of clouds and fog, which is an intensely enamoring visual, for which the travelers come all the way, escaping the mundane, concrete city life.
It is a well-thought-of property, with in-house adventure activities such as Burma Bridge and Commando Net and guided nature treks outside the premises. The food at their restaurant "Colonial" is delightfully sumptuous and the chefs take personal care and attention to prepare food to suit one's personal preferences and palate. The designated staff member "Ravi", who guided us on the the Nature Trek was a cheerful fellow, who helped us with carrying our 2 year old lad on the meandering paths of the mountainous trek, and we are appreciative and grateful to him for the same.
Having said that, the hotel doesn't come without its share of demerits. The management is far-off from with-holding principles of fair-dealing and ethics, as illustrated by the following:
1. We had booked a Super Deluxe Room with Breakfast and Dinner Buffet included. I had registered on the hotel's portal and subsequently received a call from their corporate representative, who instigated/persuaded me to book the room by offering the assurance that I'd get the Valley-facing room. He also told me to remind about this room preference during the morning of check-in date. But it was disappointing that despite all my reminders and their assurances, I was made to check-in in a Forest-facing room. And then they came up with excuses that the Valley-facing rooms were being pre-occupied by some Group members, and the same can not be regretfully made available.
2. Secondly, while having lunch, a staff member at the Restaurant informed us that the Buffer Dinner is contingent on the number of guests opting for the Buffet package. Accordingly, the buffet might not happen if there aren't enough people. It was disappointing since we had booked and paid for a Dinner Buffer Package, and now we were being apprised that the same might not happen. Although they clarified that we may opt for the a-la-carte option instead, and the same would be on-the-house, but the same menu option is not as charming as the spread and variety of a Buffet. Further, one may take small and relevant/judicious portions/quantity in a buffet, ensuring that food doesn't go wasted, which is not the case of a-la-carte (especially if you have a non-vegetarian husband and vegetarian wife combination). Fortunately, there was a group of around 10 families putting up that day, and the buffet was laid out eventually.
3. While we expressed our desire to go for the Nature Trek, the in-charge informed us that it wasn't possible that day since the guide wasn't available (was at leave). On inquiring about the possibility on the next day, we were told that the same was contingent upon the guide resuming duty the next day. It was disappointing and the feeling of being cheated had deeply sunk in now (also considering the Point 1 and 2 above). It was only on taking up a firm stance by us, that they designated a staff member instead (Ravi, as mentioned above), and the trek was arranged.
4. During the night, we received a call from the Manager inviting us for the Bonfire Dinner and also apprising us the the dinner also included starters. And then he told us that we need to pay extra for the starters (amounting to more than a thousand bucks for a couple). We opted for the same. We didn't mind paying the amount and we still don't know whether starters are part of the buffet on other days or not, but it wasn't a positive feeling paying extra, despite already having booked the highest loaded MAP package. Come to think about it this way: had the buffet option not been served that day (had the number of people been less), and had we included starters in our a-la-carte order, would have be been charged extra for starters? Logically, no.
All said and done, this is what I said to Mr. Sharma (Manager) while checking out, and this is what I'm repeating: That we were on a on a vacation, and we didn't want the hotel's (mal)practices to spoil our holiday mood, hence we didn't create a row about all the 4 points mentioned above. But had the hotel management shown better ethics, it would have certainly garnered more goodwill and recommendation. The hotel follows the eco-tourism approach: I guess they need to learn a lot from their superior counterpart "Baikunth Resorts, Kasauli", which is our extended family's favorite eco-tourism home-away-from-home property. Anyways, we as a family had a wonderful time communing with nature and relishing delectable food, and for this, the time spent at Aamod at Dalhousie would always be special and memorable.
Beautiful
