Great Rooms and Amenities... but Spend Your Nights Elsewhere
Jack Ron 27/07/2017 13:17If all you're looking for in a hostel is a relatively cheap place to sleep, then this hostel is for you, as the rooms are the hostel's greatest strength.
The rooms are spacious and bright, and unlike many other hostels, come with moderately priced en suite showers/toilets, which are always a huge plus. Even in a shared dorm, which is what my group had, there are ample facilities for all, including lockers and fast wifi too, so no complaints there.
But anything further, including the hostel's own facilities, is where the cracks begin to shine through. The breakfast offered by the hostel is overpriced compared to many others we visited on our trip, at seven euros per head, and when we arrived close to its end, the staff glared at us and hovered around like vultures, waiting for us to leave.
This staffing problem also ties into to the hostel's biggest flaw overall: the lack of staff. During our stay, and on a saturday night, the hostel's sky bar: one of its main attractions, was closed for no reason other than lack of staff to man it, and because the reception is staffed by one (sometimes two) staff at any given time, trying to buy drinks is a near impossibility as you are always waiting for a new arrival to finish their 30-60 minute check-in process. Check-in, by the way, was also by far the longest and most unnecessarily tedious check-in of any hostel we visited, with multiple forms of ID required and multiple forms to fill out, on top of the usual booking confirmation and deposits that are standard amongst hostels.
So yeah, overall, while the hostel does excel in its core job: to provide cheap facilities for travellers to sleep/wash in, its location is mediocre compared to central Berlin (although very close to a train station/the Reichstag building) and its customer service and staffing are a big issue. An okay and serviceable hostel, but with several flaws that need ironing out.
Not the best alternative
Carlos Don 03/06/2017 15:28I can understand young people and groups of teenagers chose this place to stay. However, for people looking for slightly more quality, this is not the place. The staff is unfriendly, almost rude, and the main advantage, which is to be a few blocks from Hauptbahnhof is really unimportant. In a city wher epublic transport works fairly well, you can find much better alternatives a couple of Tram or U-bahn stations away. I would simply not recommend staying here unless really there is no other alternative available and you want to be 5 minutes walk from HBhf.
More of a hostel not a hotel
savionaon 21/05/2017 11:42This place is more of a hostel and not a hotel.
The place was filled with young crowd when we arrived and was noisy. It did not give us a feeling of a family hotel where you can stay with children.
Receptionist was surprised that we are staying with a kid and sharing bed with her. We booked the hotel based on their policy which quotes children are welcomed. We also mentioned about this in our special message to property while booking.
Apparently as per him it was legally not allowed hence he had to give us a bigger room with bunk bed for kid.
We were told that room could be given only at 3 pm.
Since we had only a day in Berlin and had a flight next day morning, we had to leave our luggage at their locker for a price of 12€.
We returned to the hotel at midnight just to catch some sleep.
The room was neat and tidy and we had a much needed sleep.
Big but Ok
vidibreovoon 29/04/2017 21:25Hotel is realy big, but it is clean. Check-inn and out are express, only few minutes. Wi-Fi is free and it is ok (only in restaurant not working). Breakfast good and various, maybe it is hard to find place to sit, but you can came at bigining of working hours, or in second part of it. Neighbour is quiet, and nearest metro station is Hauptbanhof, only 5-7 minutes by foot. There you will find many S-bahn and U-bahn lines, regional and international trains. Many fast foods and shops.
Close to the hotel you will find small shop with drinks, food, cigaretes...
Sleaping quality is ok, and bathroom is same as in every A&O hotel (I like it).
Only bed thing is door at the coridor on every flor. They are to loud, especialy if hotel is full of youg students, and that is not rare.
An average Hostel
Maxi Son 19/04/2017 07:45The Rooms are quite clean, there is also a hair dryer and towels in every room which is pretty nice. However, the breakfast seems to be quite chaotic in some points. There is also for example this 'sky bar' (so to say) which is the worst bar i have ever seen.. But nevertheless the staff seems to be quite friendly and helpful. All in all an average central-city-hostel.
