What People are saying

Overpriced

Travelling_Colon 27/08/2017 08:36

I do not normally feel so disappointed about hotels, I tend to go with the flow but or the price €255 this is a rip off.
For that price I expect a lot. We got a well equipped air conditioned room. That's about it.
- When we arrived I could not park outside but had to move down the street.
- Parking was in a public car park, two cars down one had had its wheels removed and was bashed in
- I then had to carry bags etc up three flights of circular stairs, steps made for small monks not a 6'5" Englishman
- Finally our mezzanine bed was up another flight of stairs
- the TV only had 2 channels working
All this is fine when in your 20s not your 60s
To rub salt in the wound breakfast would have been €40 on top of the room rate.

I'm sorry but they have their pricing wrong. All this would h been fine for €100 less. Book this with your eyes open.

Wonderful ambiance, but lots of stairs!

This place is really charming. But we were on the top floor, and we had a narrow stairway in the room to climb up to the bed. Service was wonderful - they cheerfully bring your luggage up all those winding circular stairs to your room. Nice amenities for a small hotel - Clarins products and plenty of good towels and robes. The hotel is wonderfully quiet, with only the gentle sound of the church bells in the morning.

A m Middle Ages abbey!

Eurtouriston 22/08/2017 22:19

Having started a tour of a few places in France to see monuments and mementos of the Middle Ages, what could have been better that to start in Beaune with the Abbaye de Maizieres? The entrance is in a basement with true romanesque arches. We had also dinner in that unique decor and we enjoyed immensely the dinner and of course the wine The service very nice. Breakfast was great.

Stunning setting but not up to scratch

Max Mon 20/08/2017 16:18

We were at the tail end of a 7 week holiday through Scotland and France and decided to have, (what we thought) would be a night of luxury. Maybe I missed read the description or I romanticised staying in an old Abby, but it was not up to scratch.

Briefly...the staff were first class, very friendly, engaging and helpful; so we are off to a great start. It started to unravel when we climbed 3 floors up a narrow stair case with foot treads that would have suited a small young person. No we are not "big", I am 80 kilo and 5'9" but it was a challenge. Thank goodness we had small bags as getting down would have been a mission.

The room could be best described as "unique". The bed was very comfortable but was at the top of more, quite steep steps. What made it worse was the fact the bathroom was on the ground floor of the unit. If you needed to go during the night, you took your life in your hands going down the steep stairs.

A positive, the hotel is very well located and free parking just down the road..all great attributes.

The restaurant location and ambience would rate as a "6 star" but the food, 1 star. It fell woefully short of acceptable cuisine. For example my wife had a steak, expecting it would come extra's like vegetables or even a sauce; instead she received steak and chips, that's it...really in this day and age...no, not good enough...no for 30 euro. A positive, once a again the waiting staff were wonderful and that helped carry the night.

Sorry Abbaye de Maizieres, but if you want to appeal to a mature clientele, asking people to lump bags up and down a narrow stair case, climbing up and down to the bathroom, you need to do better. The restaurant location is so special, can I recommend you overall your menu and / or add extra garnish. 30 euro for steak and chips....no sorry, too expensive and plain.

Loved the Abbaye - historic, friendly staff and superb location

We loved our stay - very special - a monastery built in the 12th century - easy to miss the entry way which is a door lower than average height - although there is a hotel and Michelin sign. Five minutes' walk to catheral and L'hotel Dieu. On the night of arrival, we had jambon de persillé and escargot, a chicken dish with creamy mustard source and beef bourgeron. Everything was delicious. Our room was spacious with modern shower, Clairins toiletries and television with CNN. Yes we had to walk up spiral stone stairways but that is the charm ! One does not come to Beaune looking to chill by the pool ! Staff also kindly offered to carry our luggage upstairs - we just had carry on size rollers - so not a problem. Overall a very special place - I highly recommend to those who are interested in lodging with historic ambiance !
