small family-run hotel located on outskirts of Dresden, but easily accessible by car and public transportation, clean quiet rooms with basic amenities, decent breakfast, free parking

there may be some problems with late check-in as the owners leave at 10 pm

Bates Motel

John Son 28/06/2016 10:37

For all of you Hitchcock fans that are unfortunate enough to stay at this hotel, you would likely agree that this place should rather be named the Bates Motel. No explanation needed on my end if you know what I'm talking about (the only difference is that the manager's mother is still alive and watches everything like a hawk).

Overall, a very creepy experience. Stayed for three nights because it was one of the cheapest hotels in Dresden. Turns out you pay for what you get. I will say, however, that the hotel was pretty clean. But the manager was very rude and didn't seem to realize he is working in the hospitality industry. Either that or he just doesn't like Americans. He stuffed my brother and I into the tiniest room on the top floor. The room was sweltering hot so we had to open the windows. After opening the windows, which didn't help with the heat, dozens of flies entered the room and took up residency.

I expressed my concerns regarding the flies and heat to the manager, and he handed me a fly swatter, saying "that's just how the neighborhood is, and it's supposed to get cooler." The top floor was by far the hottest in the hotel as you could feel an immediate difference even going down one flight of stairs. Why he put us on the top floor is beyond me as I saw a grand total of two other guests over our entire stay. He claimed that other comparable rooms were full when I asked if another room on a lower floor was available.

This place also doesn't accept credit cards. Cash only apparently (most likely only if you're a tourist). We were informed of this on our last night, so we had to make a special trip to an ATM to pull out the cash we needed to settle up. The manager criticized us for not carrying cash, but of course he didn't consider the possibility that we had planned not to have any more Euro on us during the night of our last stay in a country that accepted Euro.

I could keep going on and on, but I just want to forget about this awful experience. I can confidently say that this was the worst hotel I have EVER stayed at. Not an exaggeration people! Look elsewhere if you're a traveller looking for budget accommodation. The location is also terrible. Public transport is ok.... but you'd be much better off staying at a city center location, trust me (you'll save loads of time and money, and not have to worry about when the bus/tram stops running back to your hotel and leaves you stranded).

Uncomfortable sleeping, don't bother..

We were booked last level, 4th, with child in tow and luggage, no help was offered, everything had to be carried on the never-ending staircase. Entrance is at the back where the carpark is, we had to circle the property to make sure it was the right door. Next to the entrance was an inflatable wadding pool which was very funny because the place advertises the hotel with a POOL which can be used give the weather permits....I suggest the guy who owns the place look up 'hotel with pool' to see what this means. Once we were at reception we booked in and he happily told us that we will be happy because we will have city views. Well, the city is quite far and what you see around is an industrial area with rubbish all around...we had to laugh at this too. Sleeping was horrible, my husband sleeping in the single bed and my son and I on an opened up sofa. My spine was sore the next morning and had hardly any sleep. Being last floor, the ceiling is sloping and it felt horrible claustrophobic in this tiny room. There was no adequate room for three people. The owner let us know that breakfast EU7 and that there is a fridge that I can connect myself and it is situated in the hallway to be shared.

Great, good quality, not so far from the historical places

Adler Hotel is a great hotel to stay for a day or two.
The room was very cleaned, and the furniture is realy good and new.
The owner is friendly. Actually he was kind solving a problem we had with insects that had entered by window.
There are connections from there to the historical part of the city by bus and Straßenbahn.

Nice hotel

Pros:
Price 47 euros
Free safe parking
Super free wifi connection
Spotless room/bathroom with everything you need.
Crisp and fresh linnen (absolute pleasure)
Good sized room.
Helpfull staff with perfect english.
Breakfast available for 7,5 euros (very nice)

Only thing is that it is a little out of the centre, but we took the bus right outside the hotel and then the tram and we were in the center in 30 mins , so not bad at all!
(Please note that outdoor pool is a inflatable bassin more than an actual pool).

Very good value for money!!
