Disappointing 30th wedding anniversary.

Very disappointed from reading previous excellent reviews I booked two weeks holiday and was looking forward to celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. I don't normally leave reviews but sorry to say on this occasion we were so disappointed, The room was below the lobby, very noisy thanks to the very old air-conditioning unit which eventually broke down completely tripping out the fuse box, we tried leaving the window open but the bar across the road to the hotel keeps open till 4:00 AM so we hardly had any sleep for the two weeks. Also sorry to say we had booked half board and was told that we could only use the buffet which was often covered with flying insects. My wife was very upset and complained to the management on a number of occasions but they seemed to not understand or did not want to know, The Restaurant manager told her to complain to Monarch airlines who we booked with. The bathroom in our room was very dirty, towels were also often very badly worn. The only good thing I can say for this hotel is that we had a large flat screen TV and Internet service was always very good. Never before on holiday have we ever looked forward to going home.

In the room they selected for me...it was small and dark and no shampoo provided as well as only one towel. There were many nicer rooms with wood floors, views you didn't have to fall out of the window for, and the breakfast was a mish mash...no milk or sweetener available without asking.
I'm sure there are much better hotels Overseas companies can pick for 16 travelers.

A last minute booking which turned into a lovely stay

Needed to get out of Zagreb after a few hours where it was 36 degrees and streets were dead.
So looked on the internet and fell on Opatija and a last minute deal with hotel Agava.
Location was great, exactly the style you can expect in. Turn of the century place, 5 minutes down to the beach, staff very friendly and 10 euros breakfast to die for.
My son and I popped to the tennis club (tenis klub) just up the street in the morning and we spent the rest of the day sunbathing in the Bevanda club.
Great way of starting the holidays by the Adriatic.

Disappointing for a full price hotel

The hotel is clean and well kept and the staff are polite and helpful. But, there are many negative points:
- You have to pay an extra 20 euros a day for parking
- It has no beach access and no pool
- The electronic room access system is poor with cards frequently failing to work
- Room was small, dark, and hot with no way to adjust aircon [if indeed there was any]
- Shower was very small, with hardly any room to move once you were in
- Breakfast is reasonable, but with only artificial fruit juice

All this would be acceptable if the Agava were a budget hotel. But it costs almost the same as hotels that are much more sumptuous and with much better facilities such Kvarner and Jakov

They say it's been restored but from the look of e room we got you have to be joking. No toiletries in the bathroom; the towels are so threadbare id only use them for bathing my dog; you can't adjust the a/c as they've taken the knobs off. The room is tiny, no view , there is a terrible sewer/toilet smell. I wouldn't dream of recommending this place, no matter what they charge
