Nice and quiet place

Nice and quiet place to stay if you want to explore the beautiful Val d'Orcia. It looks good and authentic from the outside, but the interior with indian decorations is not the best choice.
The host is very friendly and always ready to help you.
Dinner for 20 euro/person was tasty, but breakfast is just basic.

Beautiful area but it is not agriturismo

We stayed in Agriturismo Grossola in May 2016. Val D'orcia is an absolutely stunning place, the farm looked very authentic on the pictures and blended perfectly with the tuscan landscape. It was newly refurbished and clean! There were a shared kitchen and few rooms on the floor we stayed. We wanted an authentic tuscan experience on an olive farm, but, unfortunately, it was more like a little hotel with no charm. The interior was confusing: all rooms were decorated with Indian paintings and buddhas. So no tuscan interior. If you've been to italian agriturismo, you will be confused too: the hotel manager cooks dinner for 20 euro per person, something you can do yourself (basic pasta). The breakfast was the biggest disappointment, as it was nothing like they described: yogurt, sponge cakes, bread, apples, coffee/tea. No fresh bread, prosciutto, fresh veggies, olives or anything else you expect to see on a farm. We had all of that + great coffee and omelet in Chianti. Unfortunately, Val d'Orcia is very touristic, and some places just don't bother to provide anything else apart from the stunning view from the bedroom. We have also asked for some local tips (where to have a great dinner, wine etc), the hotel manager directed us to the secluded restaurant, which was empty, the food was poor, and the prices were a rip-off!! She also asked to mention her name, so we could get a discount... Obviously, never happened. Anyway, if you decide to stay here, don't expect to have a good breakfast, don't buy any dinners on a farm and don't ask for any recommendations/tips. The area is gorgeous, but you can get it anywhere around.

special and memorable

We stayed here one night in July 2015 and were mesmerized by the surroundings with olive groves, deer and the view over Tuscan hills. Yes, you do need a car to get there since it's sort of in the middle of nowhere - which was wonderful! But it was a bit hard to find: neither our GPS or smartphones could find the adress so be prepared beforehand! We had to drive around for a while until we actually stumbled on a sign that led us on the right way.

The people running this place are AMAZING, incredibly nice and made us a wonderful 4 course vegetarian dinner. But please keep in mind that this is not a luxury hotel: it's a charming old estate with a somewhat simple standard. No air condition, just a small fan. Wi-fi was slow but hey, that's okey in an environment like this. However, the shower worked fine, there's a free parking and the pool was great. The only real problem I had was that the bed was very hard and I woke up with pain in my whole body. Still, I really appreciate the fact that we choose to stay in an establishment like this during our travels in Tuscany. It was truly special and memorable.

perfect place to stay

On the way from Cortona to Lucca we have stayed one night. We were three families and all of us was happy for friendly staff, clean rooms and good breakfast. The great view of the valley was fantastic.
