Excellent breakfast
Siim Jon 15/07/2017 11:22The location of this hotel is maybe not the best but everything else is pure genius. I really liked the idea that when you check in you are given a jug with which you can bring fresh water, including sparking water, from the lobby's water dispenser to your room. The room was very spacious with a large balcony from where you had a nice view. There's even facilities to prepare tea and coffee. The best part was the breakfast which was very delicious and consisted of various homemade products. I would definitely book it again.
Good stay with perfect dinner

clean, staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Good variety for
breakfast, free sparkling water from a machine all day long.
There is a restaurant on a property. They serve lunches and dinners.
Dinner starts at 8 and priced around 30 euros flat plus wine. Highly
recommend- try at least once, make a reservation (always booked with
locals). Selection of wines also very impressive.
When book a room ask for second floor; first floor has patio doors and
no windows; we didn't feel comfortable to leave doors open overnight.
Il Cucchiaio di Legno locates in 20 minutes walk from Orta San Giulio
(or 4 minutes drive). Town is small (actually there is only one main
street along the lake with all piazzas and shops). Prices are
moderate, and place is not overcrowded.
There are few free parking areas close to town (marked with white lines). If all taken - use underground multilevel parking (cash only, 10 euros a day).
There are also boat shuttles (private and from city) to islands.
Private is slightly more expensive but provides frequent rides. Plan to spend 1 hour or 2 hours with dinner on isola San Giulio fairy tail.
There is also free beach within 5 minutes drive from the property.
Great for kids
Bill Non 18/06/2017 09:04Good size family friendly rooms with lofts and bunk beds. Small playground outside. Delicious breakfast with all sorts of homemade pastries.
Free wifi was a bit slow and reception is only staffed until 6 PM at which point you need to call someone - with no phone in the room this is difficult if you don't have a cell phone. Those downsides were pretty minimal for an otherwise very nice stay.

Janneke1980on 17/06/2017 21:50What a nice concept; you go there at 20:00 and eat all night what the chef cooks for everyone. The meals were great. Not only traditional; we had risotto with gorgonzola, mint and cacao. The wine menu is as big as a novel. The wines which were recommended were great.

Martin Son 24/04/2017 22:16From the moment we arrived we were made to feel special. The room was spotless and was exactly as described. The location was about a 15 minute walk from the town centre The roads are narrow and there are no footpaths but there is a lovely walk down through the woods that avoids 90% of the road. The associated restaurant served traditional Italian food prepared to a high standard. We really enjoyed our meal and the number of courses and opportunities for seconds ensured we left more than satisfied.
