What People are saying

Outdated design in a good location

Nitzan Ton 30/01/2017 21:18

The hotel is located right next to the ski slopes in Oberwisenthal with great views of the mountains. The hotel is quite outdated in its design, with small, basic rooms. However, breakfast was great, and the staff was generally good, though they only speak German.
The indoor pool is a nice plus.
WiFi was free but didn't work so well.

Superb value family-friendly hotel with ski in, ski out

Really impressed with the value and quality, lots of great touches and friendly staff. We booked a classic room for us and our toddling daughter with half board, which was only 19 euros extra when the room cost 89 euros. The food is buffet style with huge choice from healthy, fresh salads, to hearty pasta or roasted meats. There's something for everyone. It's a HUGE hotel, so it gets busy around 7pm, but for the amount of people, they cater well. They also had a buffet just for children with sliced fuit and veg amongst other things. I was impressed by the amount of things for a family to do. There's two different play rooms for small children and then an-adventure-style area for the bigger ones. The pool is a good standard (10x20m) and accessible by a glass walkway. There is a Wii lounge for the gamers, pool tables, children's cinema and they make good use of the space the hotel offers.
The hotel is up the side of the mountain so you ski straight out onto the piste and the hotel runs a ski huette for an apre-ski drink straight off the slopes. There is a ski hire place in the hotel, but be warned, it's not cheep (we paid nearly 100 euros for the three of us for a day and a half). There is a good ski school at the bottom of the slope right next to the hotel. For a family ski trip from Berlin, it's a three hour drive and it's all very convenient. It's a former East German hotel and a bit worn, but given the amount of business they do, it's very well done.

Great location and entertainment.

For skiing, this hotel is ideal. 50m from the rear entrance starts the ski hill. Ski rentals are even on site. We booked half board and I have been impressed with the meal selection. Entertainment was available most evenings for both kids and adults. The only problem was our double room was extremely small. We booked with an extra bed that pulled out from the double bed. With that out, there was absolutely no place for anything else. The bathrooms were just as tiny. But if you are here to ski and be entertained, this is a great place at a decent price. Big shout out to the hotel staff as well who helped me get my car unstuck from the parking lot!!! All the staff were extremely friendly and mostly bilingual or trilingual with english, Czech, and german.

Good value in ski resort

Large hotel in the middle of a ski resort. We booked a “Maisonette” which turned out to be a two level room with some internal stairs, very nice but not for us old folks. The desk cheerfully changed us to an apartment suite at the same price. Free wi-fi, breakfast, minibar and safe, no a/c in rooms. Flat screen HD TV's with BBC and Bloomberg. Now just some informational observations not criticism: Outdoor parking was 3.50 euros a day and the front desk wanted payment on check-in, even though we are Best Western Members and as such they gave us a free welcome drink. The usual bottle of soap on the wall instead of a bar of soap...call me old fashioned but I have been reduced to carrying my own. No blackout curtains which seems to be the case in many hotels. What appear to be balconies on the facade are architectural and have no access short of climbing out of the window. Fine hotel, good location and value.

Peaceful

Misfit100on 14/07/2013 07:53

Lovely peaceful hotel this time of the year, Room was nice, basic and clean, very vey small bathroom with a shower, (although the bathroom bin hadn't been emptied from previous guests, oversight ) lovely views. This hotel is defiantly aimed towards the Germans even though its a European flagged Hotel but it is deep into Germany so why shouldn't it !, all menus were in German so had to use the phone translator to try to guess what to eat. Staff didn't or were reluctant to help with English and even though my hubby speaks German he did ask them to slow down so he could get a grip on what they were saying, they didn't . Nice if your touring through but would like to stay more than a few days this time of year. Be prepared to try German as I believe we should try to speak at least the basics please and thank yous when in their country but bring a translator to make life easier if your not fluent.
