Quirky boutique hotel with fabulous artwork
AlwaysDiscerningon 30/08/2017 09:45Set in a Georgian townhouse, our room in this hotel was large and with a lovely outlook and well renovated bathroom. However, it is the artwork collection owned by the hotel proprietor that is really attention-getting and very interesting. The breakfasts were great and the restaurant area acts as a 24-hour bar cum restaurant at night cum cafe during the day. The hotel is within an easy walking distance to the city centre but located in a quiet area, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Having booked Edinburgh during festival time, the city was a bit crazy and full of people, to the extent it was incredibly difficult to walk up the Royal Mile. So this hotel was a pleasant respite from the crowds. Also like the fact that there was in-room tea and coffee facilities.
Tip: as there is no lift, book to stay on the ground or first floor levels if you don't like climbing too many stairs
Excellent choice for the full Scottish breakfast!
John Von 29/08/2017 21:3024 is a excellent choice for the full Scottish breakfast, which comes in several interesting varieties; but it is also a very good choice for a simple breakfast, such as oatmeal, cereal. or toast. For those with more continental tastes, they have that covered as well. We went to 24 upon the recommendation of our host and found ourselves there every morning for the balance of our stay. Breakfast is the foundational meal of the day and frankly, the full Scottish will last you well into the afternoon of visiting the high spots of the town, the castle or the festival. The coffee is delicious and the staff there are very helpful, discreet and professional. The walls are covered with high quality Scottish Art - of the more modern variety and the restaurant, situated in a Georgian living room has a mantlepiece filled with relevant books on various Scottish and other contemporary artists to read along with your meal. This is a very civilized institution; but you should be warned of its addictive nature.
Lovely Hotel
BarleyThomason 29/08/2017 14:48We had 2 nights at 24 Royal Terrace, 25th - 26th August and thought it was a very pretty hotel and well kept hotel. The staff are absolutely lovely, nothing too much trouble and very attentive. Our room (number 15) was situated on the 3rd floor and with no lift, it was quite a trek but once inside it was a very good size with good views, spotlessly clean and a good sized en-suite bathroom. The walk into town is a good 25 minutes but there is a Tram stop about a 10 minute walk if you don't fancy the longer walk. There is also a very nice garden area to the rear and when the sun shines, it is a lovely place to sit and relax. My only gripe, and it is a small one, is that breakfast is an additional cost and having paid £230 a night the additional cost of £13 each was a bit steep. However, that said, the breakfast was very well presented and tasty. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Edinburgh and do also visit the Royal Yacht Britannia, well worth the entry fee.
Hidden gem

Very pretty, but a few quirks!
OzLiz13on 25/08/2017 07:2524 Royal Terrace oozes character and style! The hotel is within a georgian towhouse and the rooms are beautifully decorated.
Our twin beds were very comfortable and the room was well appointed.
Stragely, there is a claw-footed bath in each of the bedrooms (outside the bathroom are). Although it looked lovely, it was not practical when travelling with friends! The sliding bathroom door also tended to open itself at inapproriate times, needing a proper doorstop. The toilet was also extremely loud when flushing.
The location of the hotel is quiet and pretty, near Calton Hill. It is, however a 20 minute walk back to the Old Town and the centre of the action.
It should also be noted that the hotel has no elevator.
If location was not my primary objective, I would cosider staying at 24 Royal Terrace again.
