Mixed Bag
nicholas_riegelon 16/07/2017 22:24Very close to bus and tram (light street rail) that gets you to the South Alderhof train station and then from there, nearly anywhere in Berlin via multiple S-Bahn trains to S + U Bahn train stations and bus and tram lines throughout the city. There is also a grocery store and mini mall in the next block north east of the that is very affordable. So great location.
The layout of the hotel is a little weird. To get to most of the 1st floor rooms you have to take the elevator from reception to the 2nd floor, up a few stairs, through a conference area, down a few stairs where you will find yourself on the 3rd floor, then take the elevator/lift or stairs to the 1st floor. I think this is the similar for most of the floors too.
Staff were mixed. Most were minimally helpful. For example after checking in and just given very basic room information (no local information), I asked if they had an electric adapter I could borrow for my stay. The in room information books state they have them available and encourages your to call the front desk to get one. When I called I was told none were available. The next day I asked for one from a different front desk employee and he showed me about 3-4 and even referenced the mini mall northeast of the hotel to purchase an adapter that fit a USA grounded plug. He also spent a fair amount of time imploring that I return it (which I did) and complaining about past guests who do not. I completely understand the frustration of lending an adapter and frequently not having it returned, but it has to be factored into the cost of running an hotel in an city that has as many international travelers as Berlin. Room guests also leave behind these adapters frequently.
You have to purchase Wifi/WLAN for 5 Euro / day or 20 Euro / week through T-Mobile / Deutsche Telekom Hotspot. The room signal was a bit spotty. It worked better near the room door entrance and it frequently disconnected and required logging in again so much so that I kept a tab open and dedicated to just that. You might have a better signal in other rooms, but I can't confirm that. You will have access to T-Mobile Deutsche Telekom Hotspots throughout Germany / Europe
Excellent hotel, shame about the staff
Chris Gon 03/10/2016 17:36A good location in the former East Berlin. My spies tell me that this was originally student homes and the way in which the hotel is formed of two separate blocks joined together does seem to confirm this.
Nevertheless, the room was a good size by European standards, well-equipped and furnished and immaculately clean. The bathroom was spacious with very good shower (no bath).
The hotel is about ten minutes walk from the Adlershof S-bahn station with frequent trains into the city centre and direct to Schoenefeld Airport. If it's raining, or you're tired, it's one stop on the tram or bus. You can also catch a bus direct to/from the main entrance of Schoenefeld (the station is ten minutes walk from the airport). Another bus will take you to Rudow in ten minutes and the U-bahn station there.
Breakfast wasn't included in my deal but there was coffee every morning in the lobby with apples and oranges available as well. The hotel has a bar/brasserie/restaurant but I didn't try that.
Within five minutes walk or less, there is a very large supermarket and pharmacy and a selection of small cafes and restaurants.
It's just a shame the staff - who spoke good English - seemed to have no sense of humour. But that didn't make or break my stay.
So all in all an excellent base for exploring Berlin if you want to save money, be near the airport, and don't mind a half-hour enjoyable ride into the city centre.
Rude staff, poor design, very average
Peter Mon 09/09/2016 06:00This is the worst hotel I have stayed at for some time. The check in staff were unhelpful and almost rude. To get to the room took - at their description - a lift to the 2nd floor, then a very long walk to the end or a long corridor through a number of fire doors, then another lift. When I got to the room, the window is very high in the wall, so that it's almost like a prison. It's an airport hotel, so I suspect they're used to guests who have no choice but to stay there and don't expect repeats. Everything is extra: the breakfast, the internet. I certainly won't be staying there again.
Nice comfortable hotel
poppyforeveron 07/09/2016 17:47Stayed here for one night because we were flying from Schoenefeld the following morning. Have been in Berlin many times so didn't need to be in the centre this time. We were really pleased with the room and wet room we were allocated. The area was pleasant. We had drinks in Charlie's cocktail bar and had dinner in a lovely Italian restaurant 20 minutes walk from hotel. There is also a supermarket nearby. Hotel provided complimentary coffee and fruit and water in the lobby which was a nice touch. Came across a very pleasant young man in the lobby, didn't get his name, but he made me feel more welcome than the lady at reception. Would definitely stay here again. You lose one star because of lack of free wifi which most hotels offer these days. Air con worked well in our room. Didn't have breakfast so can't comment on this.
Clean and Simple
ellensm1on 23/08/2016 04:43Stayed here over new years with my partner. Found the place quite easily from air port, was around 20 euros in taxi. Staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and very very spaceous! The only problem was the door, found it reallly difficult to get in using the card and lock system. Wasnt explained to us when we first arrived and found it hard to get hold of staff to help.
The location was a bit out of the way however this ended up to be a posative thing as it meant we had to learn how to use the trains which were amazing! the train station is 3 min walk from hotel. Also becuase it was out of the way was nice and quiet.
Free Wifi in Lobby and then you can pay for 24hrs+ for a small fee
