A flying visit ...but a pleasant one!
kellyorcon 24/05/2017 20:57We stayed here for one night on a flying visit through the area. We were checked in quickly and efficiently by a lovely gentleman who spoke perfect English and was very helpful. We had booked a double non smoking room which when we got to it was 2 single beds pushed together - so tired we didn't care but not great if you were going for a romantic break. Imagine our surprise when they turned out to be water beds! What a hoot! Our room was on the small side with a view of the roof of the extension and the extractor fan in the bathroom was pretty noisy but on the whole, we were there to sleep and we didn't really care.
We went out onto the garden terrace and ordered lunch and the waitress who didn't speak English was very good humoured about our terrible attempts at German and frenzied hand gestures. When it arrived the food was great.
We had breakfast before leaving the following morning and again the (different) staff were really lovely, there was a good selection of food and of good quality.
Dettelbach is a really pretty town and I'd have liked the opportunity to spend a little more time exploring....maybe next time.
Very "German" traditional atmosphere

Positive experience:
+ Friendly personnel
+ Tasty breakfast
+ Cozy restaurant area, yard was all nicely decorated, i assume in summer it is even better, reasonable prices for food during the dinner, also traditional German food
+ Sauna area
Hard to say anything about location, as we were for business and by car. But just opposite of the hotel there is a beautiful church. In general Dettelbach is very small city. But it would be also too cold to walk to some other restaurant.
Negative experience:
- not even free welcome water
- no free internet
- TV did not work
- on first evening sauna was cold, because personnel forgot to switch it on

wortelboeron 31/05/2012 10:13Halfway on a long trip, I decided to stay at this hotel. Very convenient and quiet room (windows open at night), good restaurant, very nice wines and caring staff. Worthwile to pass by again!
Eine große Enttäuschung!
Josephine_kon 21/06/2009 15:27The 4* from this hotel are a wonder, how they are achieved.
The good: the hotel looks nice, inside is relatively clean. I'll explain below what "relatively" means. Service is ok, generally friendly. Beds where ok, although small.It's not worth it's price at all.
The bad: I stayed there with my partner for a night. The room had a view into the neighbour house, which was VERY close. Bathroom was quite small, with a shower "area", delimited by a curtain, because there was no shower tub. The "wellness paradise" is a joke, the size of an apartment. The steam bath did not work and the sauna had no control for temperature. There was no one from the hotel there to help the guests out. The only living things were 2 bugs at the showers. Big bugs. Then we wanted to try out a room that had the SPA sign on it. It was basically a bath tub and it wasn't even cleaned out after last visitors (as i said, there was no one from the hotel's team around). Bottles and glasses and messed up towels were all over the place. But bathing foam was not. The candles were empty as well. Instead of music (loudspearks were just as deco), we relaxed at the sound of a broken vent that was making a horrible loud noise you could hear 2 rooms further, in the sauna. If 4 guests are in the "wellness paradise", it starts to be crowdy. The next day we served breakfast at the hotel. They had exactly 4 types of salami, one type of ham, 2 of cheese and 3 sorts of jam, all from the cheapest quality you can find on the market. A lady was preparing scrambled eggs; we had to wait 15min for them (probably had to run behind the hen to grab the eggs...). The fruits were still a little raw; again, very poor quality.
Overall, an unexpected bad experience that should not happen in a 4* hotel.
