What People are saying

Cheap and cheerful

Apiersaon 02/05/2012 14:08

The hotel is owned and run by an extremely young couple and they have furnished and decorated it as any young couple would: cheap and cheerful. They told me that they bought the hotel a year ago and that it was very run-down so they have given it a lick of paint and are re-doing it bit by bit. The hotel has three floors, no lift and a narrow staircase so if you have a large suitcase I recommend you ask for one of the ground-floor rooms.
As there are only the two of them running the hotel, it is closed for the afternoons and the front door shuts at 8:30 p.m. so you must warn them if you will be arriving later than this.
We had the family room under the eaves which looks out onto the market place (closed for renovation when we were there but apparently to re-open at the end of May 2012. It is a daily market so I imagine that if it is hot and you sleep with the window open you'd be woken up fairly early!) The room was quaint but comfortable. The bathroom was OK (it will be renovated, the owners told me).
We were missing a double plug in the room, there was nowhere to hang wet towels, one day there was no toilet paper...but all we did was ask and these things were there when we returned.
There were fresh croissants for breakfast every day, a choice of cereals, fruit, cheese, juices, jams. Nice start to the day. You eat in the small reception area and I found the television an unwelcome distraction...but then we were visiting in the middle of the presidential election and the news channel was on so perhaps this was exceptional.
The hotel is very central and in a pedestrian zone so you cannot park and unload luggage in front of the hotel. This (slight) inconvenience is made up by the fact that you are just seconds' walk from the picturesque port and less than 5 minutes' walk from the beach. There is also a wide choice of restaurants to pick from (there is none in the hotel).
The hotel I'm sure will improve as the owners gain in experience and complete the renovations they are undertaking. Good luck to them. We will return in a couple of years or so and see how they have got on!
We found it reasonably good value for money.
