A magical stay at the former home of my Great Grandmother's family.
Gina Pon 16/07/2017 21:41I traveled to Pietrasanta to discover my family's heritage and to meet my second cousins. You can imagine my excitement staying at Albergo Pietrasanta, the family home of my Great Grandmother Giselle Bonetti. While I wish there were pictures available of the mansion in its original state, the main room/common areas gave me insight on how elegant it must of been. (if the owners have any old pictures to share, I would be grateful). I appreciated the care the owners took to keep its old charm. We had a nice room, although my only complaint is that the sides of the tub were very high and it was difficult stepping in and out of the shower. Could be fall hazard for an older couple. The staff spoke great English and were very helpful and accommodating. Breakfast was service in a picturesque atrium/sunroom and consisted of an assortment of meats, danish, breads, eggs, juices and great coffee. The hotel is located one block from the piazza and magnificent Duomo where my grandparents were married. There are plenty of small shops, art galleries and restaurants in this quaint town know for its art, and sculpture. At night the town became the hot spot for locals out and about spending an evening with friends. The train station is a few blocks from the hotel making it easy to travel to other cities in Italy. Pietrasanta will forever be in my heart and I will be back.
Wonderful slice of paradise
on 11/07/2017 09:48You will not find a more beautiful, elegant simplicity anywhere in Europe than Pietrasanta Italy. The laid back charming streets are bristling with all variety of interesting shops and restaurants. Many musical and theatre events throughout the summer enhance an already sublime spirit that is old Italy.
No Starbucks or Mac Donald's to annoy the visual senses and no pressure to do anything but enjoy this unique town.
The Albergo Pietrasanta is located in the middle of the oldest part of town and has a similar old world spirit to the rooms and public spaces.
If you come here, stay at this hotel!
Nice luxury hotel
Alexander Eon 31/05/2017 17:41Nice hotel in the heart of Pietrasanta. Cannot mark it with 5 because the bath is awful to take shower in it. Water splashes everywhere. If do not take care about that everything is very good: nice room with old furniture, helpful staff, tasty breakfast and good location
AMAZING DISCOVER
sandrinamion 18/05/2017 09:03I had no expectation and we found a little gem in Pietrasanta. Elegant, understate style and extremelly charming. Rich of surprises! we went out of season . I don't know how could be in July and August. Anyway I will try to be back again. .
Don't go there during the winter season....
Sanrdrafranceon 21/01/2017 12:09Oh dear. We had high hopes of this hotel, and I can only assume that in the summer season it is wonderful. In the winter season, they close of most of it, and it was cold, uninspiring and uninviting. Do read this to the end, where the worst is still to come...
The main entrance is closed, so you go up the side road and into some sort of back room. This serves as reception, breakfast room and lounge. We were shown to our room, which was cold and rather barren. Again, imagine lovely in the summer sun, but in December not so. We were not shown how anything worked, so it was the next day we discovered that we could have had access to the radiators to turn the heating up in the room. The bathroom was at least lovely and warm, thank goodness. I found the bathrobes, but my husband who gets up much earlier than me did not. Wrapped up and sealed into a plastic bag and tucked in the very bottom of the wardrobe under the shelves. He did not think to look there, and no-one had pointed out they were there. We had been aware that part of this hotel was closed in the winter season, and did discuss this AT LENGTH with the SLH booking team, but they assured me that we would be very comfortable, and that they did this every year. We would only have a buffet breakfast, but nothing cooked. That did not seem to us to be a great issue.
Breakfast was a strange affair, 3 rooms booked so 3 small tables, right next to the desk where the receptionist/porter/waiter sat. Rather odd and not so pleasant to sit right next to this one person. There were bottles of odd juices, no fresh orange juice available. An extremely limited selection of breakfast items, no fruit or berries to be seen, no cheese, no hams. It could not have been more basic, and a very poor reflection of the hotel.
However, what really caused us to doubt our decision to stay here was when we found the bug in the bed. We don't think it was a cockroach, but similar size. My husband took a picture and then placed it in the waste basket. He went to bed, needless to say we had already stripped it to make sure nothing else in there! I went to be half an hour later and pulled back the sheets to find an ant crawling around in the bed, so removed him as well.
When we down for the spartan breakfast, we showed the one member of staff who was there our picture. He was slightly apologetic, and asked for a copy of the photo so he could send it to 'a doctor'. Later that day we received a voucher for a free night's stay in Albergo Pietrasanta, but it has to be used before the end of the winter season. Firstly we are not able to travel there again before the end of March due to other commitments, and secondly, wild horses would not persuade us that we would visit this hotel again in the winter.
So, we thanked them for this kind gesture, and asked if there were sister hotels we could go to. The answer was 'no'. We then sent an emailing explaining that we were unable to visit again in that time period and could the management perhaps consider a refund of part of the room rate (we had after all paid Euros 162 for the pleasure of one night in a cold room, shared with several bugs, and with an inadequate breakfast). We have not had the courtesy of a reply.
Unfortunately for them, today I received a request to rate our stay from Small Leading Hotels, hence this posting both on their website and on TripAdviser. Had they kept in touch and helped resolve the issue, this would never have been made public.....
