Room not as advertised
MummyLesleyon 24/08/2017 17:56We were 2 couples who received very different rooms but at the same price. Our friends received a lovely spacious double room as advertised. Unfortunately, our room was grim and cramped. We discovered we had in fact been given a single room with 2 single beds pushed together to make a double! We had to squeeze pastveachother moving around the room - the seating area and sofa advertised were non-existing. The staff were all pleasant and our experience of breakfast was quite positive. There were no restaurants open nearby and even though the hotel dining was due to close, we were able to order very good room service. The Spa was beautiful and had some of the best water features we have experienced.
Disappointing
D1788SJpaulinedon 01/07/2017 13:46We stayed here for 4 nights on an organised tour with riviera travel who we have travelled with before and always been pleased with accommadation but this hotel didn't come up to expectations it is definitely not a 4 star hotel. The rooms were clean and tidy but no air conditioning and temp in 30s so vey uncomfortable sleeping. There was a kettle in the room but no milk. The meals were very poor especially the dinner, only 2 choices a fish or meat main meal which had to be ordered the night before also the vegetables were the same each night. The breakfast seating arrangements were chaotic as it was set out like a cafeteria with long tables so difficult to sit with travelling companions and not a lot of room to get buffet breakfast and there was no toaster. Only a small lift which was slow and time consuming to get from lower floors to level 7& 8 for breakfast and dinner. The dining staff were very nice on the whole and the receptionist had to deal with the bar area as well. The hotel is in a residential area so a long walk into Brig the other side of the river which several people on tour did to go to local restaurants because they didn't like the food in the hotel Alex.
Nice hotel
Sue Lon 28/06/2017 01:31Shame about the lack of choice at dinner and the totally disorganized and chaotic service. The weather was really hot but there was no air conditioning.
On the good side, the room was good but no way to make a drink and no fridge so we kept buying bottled water. The beds were very comfy and clean.
This is not a four star hotel! The staff were friendly though and stood and waved us off when we left
Worst 4-star rated hotel, possibly anywhere
siosepolon 15/06/2017 21:58Our experience echoes other comments about this hotel. Dreadful meal upon arrival - an insult to any 2-star hotel. Temperatures over 4 days around 30 degrees (high 80s), yet it does.not have any air conditioning and some rooms do not have a fridge. Towels of low quality.
The hotel is in the middle of nowhere in an unattractive part of town. The staff struggle to maintain standards. They had one girl on the desk to check in 50 guests, and serve drinks to another very large party.
Despite 6 floors of rooms it has only one small working lift - it took. 45 minutes for out group of 50 to get to our rooms on checking in. Some serving staff clearly have language difficulties.
This place is an insult to the concept of 4-star standards. You could not be pleased if you tried. Avoid this place like the plague
Friendly hotel in quiet residential area
Headgardner_10on 14/06/2017 20:42The Alex Hotel is actually in Naters, a small town on the opposite side of the river from the larger and more interesting town of Brig. The walk into Brig is about 20 minutes, not less although Naters does have a quaint side to it as well -15 minutes walk. Brig has a castle and old town through which the Romans came over the nearby Simplon pass. The train station for the Glacier Express is here. Brig is a good centre for visits to Zermatt, Montreux and over the Simplon into Italy.
Hotel is clean and comfortable, and in quiet surroundings. Staff seemed a bit flustered with the number in our party, but the food (choose your main course the day before) was more than adequate. Our room had a safe, tea (but no coffee) facilities, but no fridge.
