What People are saying

SUNNY Kon 13/08/2017 17:10

We both fell in love with Amsterdam through Alex Rooms, it was better than I hoped it would be, exactly as described and more, We've only just came back from a week break and have booked up the same room again.

Zoran and his wife are incredible hosts, and he made sure that we had a pleasant stay by going the extra mile and breaking past the barriers of a hotel owner/temporary tenant relationship, it felt like we were staying at an old friends house who's been longing to see us for a while, so we've decided to return in November to see our good friend Zoran and spend some time at his humble abode.

I've never experienced a stay like this, normally I wouldn't even leave my partners side, but I felt so certain in our surroundings, safe in the local area and had complete trust in the owners that we soon felt as if we had been staying there our whole lives.

I can't imagine anyone looking for a peaceful getaway, with everything you could possibly need, having an unpleasant stay here, I'm still smiling about the whole experience of being treated as a family member rather than a customer.

Alex Rooms and Zoran have truly secured a place in my heart and I will always return here (I have tried 4 other places in and around Amsterdam) and I have no intention of looking elsewhere.

A couple of points to add;

>The balcony is perfect
>The water temperature and pressure in the bathroom is perfect
>The ambience in the room at night, and in the day is perfect
>The daily service is perfect, we never had to ask for anything during our stay except for directions to the train station (which was extremely easy to find)
>The hot chocolates in the evening and coffees in the morning were perfect.
>The birds in the morning, the silence in the night was perfect.
>The entry to the hotel felt like we were coming home every night, which was perfect.

To be honest I don't even want to call the place a hotel anymore, it's my second home, when I say I've fallen in love with the place I mean it, I know there's other hotels/Rooms in the world that I could stay in, but when you find the one thing that you're looking for, you'll seldom go elsewhere.

The only fault I have is that I'm not spending my Sunday out on the balcony enjoying the surroundings, seeing Zoran or his wife wave at me from the garden, instead I'm back in London preparing for the work week, thinking about my time at Alex Rooms and how it enabled me to experience a holiday that felt like coming
Home, I truly miss the place and the people, I will return again and again no doubt.

I hope you've found my review helpful, please understand my passion for the room was induced by reminiscing the past week with my partner, and knowing that the least I could do for Zoran and Alex Rooms is to write an honest review.

More helpful Info - by my lady in waiting;

-Lidl within 4 minutes walking distance
-A shop for all your womanly needs within a stones throw
-Plenty of places to eat, takeaway system works very well. (They come really quick and on time)
-Safe neighbourhood
-Nice sandwich shop down the road
-There's a fridge in the room!!!!!

To wrap this up; don't hesitate if you see an available room at Alex Rooms, they do get booked up pretty quick, and we were lucky to find ours last minute, this time we've booked two months in advance.

I hope you'll find your perfect room at Alex Rooms like I have, happy holidaying!!!!!

Small, clean, and cozy spot away from the city

Stayed for 7 days in July 2017.

Pros: clean, quiet, modern, very nice staff. Well stocked grocery store across the street.

Cons: airport shuttle only available when staying in the more expensive rooms, most rooms are tiny, no AC, not very close to the city or airport, 20 minute walk to the train station, located in a small village with no nightlife and very few restaurants.

We got in later than expected and the owner was very nice, actually said he had been a bit worried about us. He got us quickly checked in and into a room to get some sleep, even helping with luggage. The next morning he upgraded us to an upstairs room with a balcony for free, due to the length of our stay. I don't think Alex Rooms gets many guests that stay for a week, it's just too far from the city and too small. We didn't see him very often after we checked in, he and his family kept to themselves other than smiling politely when we saw them in the hall. Room and bathroom were tiny, but very modern and clean, with fresh towels each day and a minibar with prices comparable to the local grocery store. We noticed that some of the more expensive rooms upstairs are larger than ours was. Stairs were very narrow and steep. No AC or bathroom fan, we kept the door to our balcony open to keep the room cool, and spent a lot of time out in the balcony, it was nice to offset the tiny size of the room. The town of Zwanenberg is a quiet, country village. Very peaceful and cute, not much to do. There is a well stocked chain grocery store called Albert Heijn across the street from Alex Rooms, also a bakery that serves great coffee and pastries. It's a 15 to 20 min walk from Alex Rooms to the train station, and about a 10 minute ride to Amsterdam central station. Round-trip to Amsterdam costs about 6 euros. Trip to and from the airport requires a transfer at at different station, but trains are on time, and both trains and stations seemed pretty safe and simple to navigate. Not a high end hotel, and definitely not in the city of Amsterdam, but a very cozy hideaway for a great price.

Lovely place

Got collected free of charge from Airport. Arrived here and room wasn't ready but they took in our bags and let us relax in the patio area. Room was grand for what we used it for, sleeping and showering. Room was clean which was also a plus. Fresh towels everyday. Stairs are quite narrow so pack light. About a 15/20 min walk to train station to Amsterdam Central. Think it's €6 or €8 daily return. Which is reasonable. There is a charge of €25 euro for return trip to airport shuttle if you are going past 11am I believe. Would stay again.

A real bargain

A nice room for half the price of Amsterdam. Cute town but really only one good restaurant. Do not eat at O Sole Mio. The food is inedible. The restaurant on the canal is great and the grocery has great foods especially readymade salads. Did not try the sandwich place.The terrace off the room is priceless really you don't get that anywhere. And free shuttle from airport is really awesome. Very nice bed. The walk to the station is a bit of a drag with sore feet from Amsterdam but a nice walk to the station.
