Lovely Relaxing Break

LynA1on 29/08/2017 13:56

Just returned from a lovely break in Alexandros in Crete, a lovely, friendly family run establishment – made to feel right at home and very very relaxed!!!! Maria, Litza, Paul and family made our stay very welcoming and were most helpful. The rooms are what you see online: comfy beds, dressing table & mirror with well positioned socked for use of hairdryer (provided in room), fridge, soap dispenser in toilet at wash-hand basin, shower cubicle. Towels and bed linen changed every second day, rooms cleaned every day. Paid extra for air con & Safe. Air Con was slightly noisy, but nothing too bad – didn’t stop my other half sleeping. The safe was situated at the reception with cameras overlooking it. No problem to keep room on for 20Euros until 6pm.

Greek night on Monday (1st night we arrived) was great! – brilliant way to meet people and the family who run the hotel join in too, food was delicious & plenty of it! Drink can be a bit pricey at 5Euro for a Cider, but then the Beer and Wine are reasonably priced. Food was lovely – gotta try the Chicken Gryos...delicious! Karaoke night on a Thursday, but not many singers (certainly not us...we’d have emptied the resort heehee). Other than Mon & Thurs, nothing else in terms of entertainment at the hotel.

Pool was lovely, we weren’t too fussed with sitting right at the pool as not much of a breeze there, but at the top end of the pool there was a lovely breeze blowing through and kept us nice and cool. Not many loungers left the 1st day we arrived, but Paul helped make sure we were okay.

Happy Hols

Good points. Small hotel, 38 bedrooms, clean, efficiently run, food very good, all the family very helpful, breakfast the same every day, but with about 25 things to choose from, just vary your choice a bit everyday and no problem. Not so good points, not a lot, the sun went behind the building about 5pm and we like to stay out until about 6 30, shower head was a bit wobbly. So really, nothing to moan about. My mother had a fall back home and ended up in hospital. Maria asked on a regular basis how was she doing, you wouldn't get that in a big hotel. Overall a great holiday, helped by the staff at this great little hotel.

We arrived early hours of the morning, welcomed and shown to our room. Food and water had been left in fridge for us due to our late arrival, which was a lovely gesture....had it been edible! The fridge was set to an almost freezer setting and the bread and fruit was simply too hard and cold to eat. Room was comfortable, but the shower flooded the floor each time it was used and we were given only one shower mat which meant unless you were first in to the shower you were paddling in someone else's shower water!! Breakfast, though very adequate, was exactly the same every morning....some variation would have been nice. Our first venture to the pool after our early morning arrival didn't go well!! We found ourselves 3 sunbeds, a little table and a parasol...perfect! No, not perfect, we had the parasol taken off us by a woman who claimed it was hers! An awful scene ensued, which resulted in the woman calling over the bar manager to sort it, who we later discovered was her son! Instead of allowing us to keep our parasol, she was allowed to keep 'her' parasol and we were found an alternative...fair enough you say, but, why didn't they find her the alternative which would have been the just and fair thing to do. On and after this there was just a generally uncomfortable atmosphere and the bar manager made sure that his family had sunbeds reserved by firstly towels but then lilo's as the week progressed. Always, 'their' corner of the pool. The family members and their children, were lovely and friendly and the children very well mannered....it was this 'reserved, allocation' of sunbeds for family members that rankled. What made the reservation of at least 6 sunbeds each and every day even more irritating was the 3' square sign asking people to remove their towels from sunbeds when leaving the pool area!! The family members didn't even use the pool until 3pm or later some days! Really not fair!! I admit we ended up putting our towels out before breakfast, but, we DID go to the pool for the day, once we had finished our breakfast. The bar manager, although helpful and accommodating, sometimes went a little too far with his comments, as an example, he shouted from the bar terrace to one of his brothers "shut your legs, your breath smells".....not appropriate or funny with such a cross section of ages. The ladies running the hotel were pleasant enough, but, they were far more friendly with some residents than with others. We were told that there was a toilet by the pool....my husband used it once, but, stressed that we 'girls' should use the WC inside the hotel, as the poolside toilet was not clean, and was in fact very smelly and dirty. It was also doubling up as a storeroom too. The Greek night was pleasant enough, the location of the hotel was nice enough. But, having acknowledged it was generally ok, we would go back to the location, just to a different hotel.

A lovely week in the sun

We are just back from a lovely week at The Alexandros. The family looked after us wonderfully - as others have said nothing is too much trouble. We travelled as a family of 5 - 2 adults and 3 teenagers. We had 2 second floor rooms overlooking the pool. Rooms were spacious and unlike the last reviewer we all found the beds very comfortable :) The rooms were cleaned daily with clean sheets and towels every 2 days.
We were well looked after at breakfast - cereals, fresh fruit, breads, toast, delicious cake and even more delicious Greek yoghurt - we never went hungry.
We ate at the hotel one night and the food was excellent and very competitively priced.
Greek night was great fun - highly recommended.
We all loved Sisi - enough shops for the kids to look around with some lovely restaurants for dinner. The most amazing sunsets we have ever seen.
We did a bit of walking - to Buftos and Potomas beaches, Malia Palace and even into Malia. We always used the coast path so had a lovely sea breeze.
Overall a great holiday in a 3 star hotel that we all thought offered great value for money. Thank you The Alexandros
