What People are saying

Overpriced but not everything was bad

I had seen this Aparthotel on different sites and thought it would be a great family hotel (kids 7&5). Room 213 above reception. The rooms were spacious and comfortable but lacked a couple of essentials in my opinion. The bathroom had a fair bit of mould (see pics) as did the kitchen area especially the fridge. This things can never happen especially when we paid €207 per night on room only basis. The sofa beds are always a joke (not only this hotel) as they are uncomfortable and you need to make them every evening and remove them in the mornings to make use of the living room. Why can't a family of 4 have the standard double bed and 2 single beds? As the rooms are directly above reception and the bar area the noise was constant. I know there are other areas of the complex that looked quiet and amazing but not where we got our room. Finally, we only got 2 complementary miniature bottles of bath gel for the whole family for the whole trip!On the plus side there are plenty of pools to cater for the large numbers in the hotel. Sun loungers were plentiful too. The St Eulalia beach is within walking distance and a great place for kids. There were also plenty of restaurants within walking distance of the complex.

Lovely hotel

Spent 10 days here in July, had paid for a sea view but when we got to the room the view was over the football pitches with sea in far distant not enough of a view to condone paying for so went back to reception and told them we didn't like it so they gave us another room without a problem, This hotel is superb there is just a few little things that let it down, the main pool was really big which is where we spent the majority of our time but there is six others so lots of choice , loved how you couldn't use the pools before 9 am so didn't have to get up early to try get a subbed, loved the pool bar for lunch and have to give a special mention to Carlos who was always so friendly and made sure you got great service. We used the restaurant a few times and each time the food was really good, the hotel gym was good but not enough control on kids using it in there bare feet especially the treadmill sometimes playing on it so you couldn't use it, I reckon they should put a complete ban on under 14s from using it. The only thing about this hotel I didn't like was the red bar in the evenings it had no atmosphere, it looks more like a cafe instead of a pub I'm not really a fan of ultra modern bars I think it's one of the reasons not a lot of people use it, also there was no adult entertainment in it which meant you had to go out every night which meant paying for taxis. But would definitely recommend this hotel and hope to one day get back to here myself

Brilliant Family Getaway

staff were very friendly and helpful at all times even though there always seemed to be a line of people at reception, The hotel was immaculate and the pool was spotlessly clean, there is a separate pool for the kids so it always seems empty, you can also use the pool at the next hotel which is really quiet, enjoyed the food at the buffet, there wasn't a massive selection but what they did have was excellent you can also upgrade from self catering to half board with no fuss at all. you are not restricted to buying drinks from their bar in fact we took drinks from the local shop to the pool with no questions asked. all in all very enjoyable and would highly recommend.

Great Family holiday

The Alfagar is a great hotel. Perfect for families of whatever age range.
We have just come return home last week from Portugal and we are already looking to go back next year.
We can't fault the hotel or facilities, everything was on site and to hand. The staff in bars & restaurants couldn't have been nicer and great with the children.
Our family apartment was clean, tidy and suitable for our needs, towels and laundry done every two days. Would recommend this hotel to anyone heading to Albufeira.

Only advice i would give the hotel staff and especially on reception, is this needs to be more speedy or have check in staff separate to the reception staff to deal with guests requirements.

Does what it says on the tin very well.... great value!

Lovely family hotel that does exactly what it states in its adverts and does it very well!

Pros.....

Very clean

Great pool options for all ages

Great location if you want to be on the beach or out the way a little bit but close enough to walk 10-15 mins to the bars/restaurants etc

Helpful staff

Onsite store. Great for convenience but expensive. Worth doing a main shop in the centre (where there are lots of supermarkets saving you £'s) and topping up onsite.

Spacious apartment

Football pitch was great for the kids as was the table tennis

Fabulous Sangria and the best bar man who always had a smile despite seemingly always being there! I once asked if he ever went home! Anyone visiting be sure to ask Ricardo for a sangria and also try his passion fruit mojitos! They aren't on the menu but he will do you one on request! Delicious! Tell him Helen says hi!!

Cons......

The walk to the nearby bars/restaurants are only 10-15 mins but are up and down a tedious hill which in 35 degree heat was not a nice stroll! Even for 2 very able adults and teenagers

The soft drinks at the pool bar are ridiculous priced. €3 for a San Miguel or €3.50 for a bit of syrup and crushed ice, otherwise known as a slush puppy!! €3 for a coke too! I know poolside bars are generally more expensive but I think this was definitely exploiting the amount of children attracted to this hotel with the water slides/ kids pool.

The so called "double bed" was horrendous! It was two singles pushed together that weren't even locked into place. If you as much as even rolled towards the middle at the same time the beds would push apart and you would find yourself in the middle on the floor!!

Shower...... like washing your hair under a slow running tap! No pressure whatsoever! Anyone with thick hair allow yourself an hour!!!!

On this occasion our requirement for this holiday was a good, clean family base for 2 adults and 2 teenagers and this place provided that. If I was to return to Albufeira I would certainly stay here again with the same demographic.

Point worth noting..... they don't allow you on sun beds or by the pool until 9am. As an early riser that frustrated me as I love lying by the pool from 7-9 having some "me time" so was quite annoyed by this, and the pool manager (lady in her mid 30's with brown hair who also takes towels away mid morning) was quite rude on the first day I mistakingly done this! However on the plus side this does avoid the dreaded "lounger hogging" so it did serve a good purpose from that aspect! And if you do leaves towels unattended for more than 20-30 mins be prepared to be shamed with a note clipped to your towel telling you off or worse still having your stuff taken by staff! Again, I feel this is a good thing, but it did anger me coming back to a note one morning after having simply been swimming and then popped for some brekkie (which we had paid extra for at the hotel) to come back to a note!

All in all tho, a great time was had by all and I recommend this hotel to any family. Just make sure you have a double bed!!!
