What People are saying

Lovely relaxing winter holiday spot.

Gregory Don 28/06/2017 07:53

Magnetic is a very special place- very low key for a holiday destination. We first stayed on the island 13 years ago, so were looking forward to coming back. Amaroo on Mandalay was a great choice to stay. Although 70's vintage, it has been very well maintained and updated. Our room was extremely comfortable for two people. Spotless and very nicely if simply furnished. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Beautiful tropical gardens, with allied rock wallabies, bush stone curlews and orange footed scrub fowl wandering the grounds, day or night. Big pool area. We were only there for 4 nights, 3 days, but will definitely stay here on our next trip. Because it was winter ( still lovely by southern standards) there were very few guests, so very quiet and relaxing. A pleasure to stay there.

Three days of R&R

I came to Magnetic Island for three days to get away from an intense business schedule. Amaroo turned out to be the perfect choice. My lovely unit was surrounded by gardens and overlooks a forest. There is birdlife everywhere! I asked the managers to show me where the bus stop was and Tezeh drove me all the way to my massage and even came back when I discovered I'd left my mobile in her car! Amazing, kind people. Pool is lovely and quiet. If you're looking for a real break from the madding crowds, then this is the perfect spot. Feel rejuvenated already and it's only been two days. Thank you.

Pleasant low key resort

We had executive suite backing to the forest. At night we had birds and wallabies coming just outside our room. Went outside and fed some apple to the wallabies. Nice pool area and wasn't very busy when we were there. The staff are very nice.
I know they are planning on opening a restaurant but unfortunately it wasn't open at the time we visited. Not a big problem as there are plenty of good restaurants around. I would recommend visitors to hire 4wd and go places that you aren't allowed to drive with a moke or topless. And the drive to beautiful radical bay for instance isn't hard at all. You just need to slowly navigate some large holes in the road.
Alternatively the bus stops just outside the resort.
I would suggest staying min 4 to 5 nights to really experience the whole island. We stayed 3 nights and can't wait to go back as we didn't cover everything.

Excellent place to stay and relax

My wife and I stayed at Amaroo on Manaley for two weeks and have to say, what a wonderful time we had. The chalet was well appointed with air con, TV, fridge/freezer, kettle, toaster, ironing board, hairdryer and WiFi. The room and linen was fresh and very clean. The pool and pool area was a great place to relax, refresh and meet some of the other guests. There is a guest BBQ area; we had a lovely BBQ one evening. As you would expect on a tropical island, the wild life is close by with curlews wondering in the beautifully kept gardens and there is lorikeet and cockatoo feeding daily, it's an amazing up and close experience. The kookaburras also get fed daily and are practically part of the Amaroo family. Brian, Tezeh and the staff were a pleasure to deal with; they have great knowledge of the island and places to visit. We would not hesitate to stay again.

Close to nature!

Recently I visited magnetic island and was advised by my travel agency crazyfares who advised to stay in 'Amroo on Mandalay'. Thank god I made this decision and thanks to the travel agency for planning end to end trip.

This is a 4 star hotel with amazing magnesium swimming pool, which obviously have no chlorine and thus no itching to eyes.

We stayed in executive rooms which has veranda at the front and also at the back of every room. There is plenty of wild life- birds, wallabies, possum roaming during dusk and dawn inside the hotel. There is a big long tennis court.

Pros:
Calm and quite; absolutely serene and close to nature
Hardly any population around
Bus stop in front of hotel gate
Walking distance from Nelly Bay

Cons:
Room service available once, only if staying for 5 days
No lunch or dinner available in hotel. But there are restaurants at walking distance
Being a tropical hub, might see small lizards in the walls. But that is common for all the hotels in this island

Recommendations:
Could provide puck and drop to ferry terminal
Dishwashing liquid and room service
