Well located and good for a short break stay over
Martin Fon 03/08/2017 08:26We recently stayed here for our visit to the 100 year celebration of Passendale. The Hotel was 2 min walk from the square and 10 mins walk from the Mennin Gate so a perfect location for seeing everything. Whilst the Hotel may be classed as basic, it is very clean and tidy the rooms are spacious and the breakfast is the standard continental breakfast you get in small hotels in mainland Europe. Car parking? you can park out side the Hotel for 1 Euro an hour .... no charge between 1800>1000hrs. Free parking is a good 10/15 mins walk away but no real hardship. All in all excellent value for the money and fully recommended.
Overpriced and very basic....
Kate70on 01/08/2017 15:21I totally agree with Rob's review and am astonished there are positive reviews on here.. Other than the location which is near the square i can find NOTHING good to say about this place.. They do have free wifi so i guess maybe I can stretch to 2 things. I was there for Passchendaele commemorations so they hiked up prices even more. This hotel (more like a b+b) is no way worth what it charges and is not what I would call 3*. Like Rob the initial greeting (when a woman finally appeared) was you cant check in until 4pm- come back later (3pm and no free rooms?) and do not forget their check out is by 10.30am so they milk the timing! ... left luggage was simply that- leave it
in the corridor! appalling. Returning just over an hour later 3 of us had a quite a challenge finding the elusive receptionist (there seems to be only 1 person working at any given time) who eventually did show up...
on the ground floor there is the drab breakfast room and outside a few table with a welcoming sign telling you not to picnic!
The rooms on the ground floor are very odd with no real natural light and an awful décor. The only plus was there was a hairdryer. The staff seem to want to leave the windows open each time which is infuriating from a security point of view. The tv has no English channels.
Breakfast is a self service buffet... basic beyond. There is a supermarket on the square very close by so a back up..and also cafes around.
I definitely would NOT stay there again should I go back to Ypres.
Just about had enough of the un-truths
Rob Aon 11/06/2017 16:05Alright - I know I can sometimes be a bit harsh, and admittedly I am getting a bit grumpy - but when spending descent amounts of money I expect truthful descriptions at the very least. The alliance bills itself well on the internet but the reality is a (little) different; firstly people understand there is NO free parking in a close distance. We run four times a week, are fit and healthy as well as both Ex Military (so when we walk, we walk). We were told the train station is the free parking and it is only a pleasant 10min walk; dragging a bag each AND with an old style route march on it was 25min!!!! Then, we are told we cannot check in as it is not 4pm??? Now I understand the need for a check in time but it is universally 2pm (and to date if rooms have been ready early we have been able to get in early) but 4pm and NO way to get in even if room is ready???!!?? FINE! We finally and happily get the key and there are single beds - I speak to the gentleman at the front desk and he says they are all gone? I don't understand; I mean check in was not until 4pm, I was waiting at 4:05pm and they were all gone? I said that the booking stated a double - the 'gentleman' shrugged and said "what can I do if they are gone"? FINE. problem is though, they have a 'no refund' policy if you cancel - even if it is them who cannot honour their own booking!!!!!! I am sitting on the bed in what could best be described as a minors room on site; don't get me wrong, it IS clean; but enough of the bull crap descriptions and not honouring your booking. I can't wait to see how they have 'up sold' the breakfast...........
Perfect alternative if visiting Brugge
717Bibaon 30/05/2017 16:59I stayed one night with my fiends; we booked a triple room. The room was extremely spacious. Pretty basic, but clean and beds were comfortable. The weather was very hot so the room was stuffy. They did provide us with a fan in the room. The bathroom was clean and adequate. Breakfast was included. Although the choice was limited, everything was very fresh, especially bread rolls and croissants.
The big plus was that the hotel was right in the centre. It is just off the main square.
One thing that is worth pointing out, we booked this room through booking.com. Originally, we were looking to find a hotel in Brugge and as this hotel came up ( under the hotels in Brugge) we booked it, thinking that it was in Brugge. After the initial shock, and also once we arrived, we were quite pleased with it. I just wanted you all to be aware in case you see this hotel under Brugge hotel list. This hotel is in Ypres, which is 40 minutes away from Brugge. However, Ypres is a beautiful town and we were glad we stayed there.
Perfect Position So Close To The Square
AnnCLon 19/05/2017 11:44We booked here for 3 nights with friends while we cycled and walked the First World War sites. We were made to feel very welcome. The room was basic but fine but the only thing letting it down - no tea and coffee making facilities! The breakfast is amazing though everything you can think of with warm fresh bread rolls and croissants on each table. It literally is 2 minutes from the beautiful square of Ypres.
