Brilliant
Sarah-Jayne Son 13/08/2017 23:27A very comfortable stay, the host Tony was really accommodating, friendly and went the extra mile! Ubers were about £5 to get to the centre but the street it's on has some nice food places and shops. We would stay again.
Excellent stay
Graham Don 11/07/2017 21:41Host Tony greeted us 845pm on a Sunday with a welcoming smile and was very helpful. Room very comfortable. Christine and Nicky were also great help with tips, room make up and breakkie. Brekkie good value. Great position. Thank you Tony - love your B&B. Highly recommended.
Beware some rooms have no windows!
Malindigirlon 11/07/2017 21:31Good points - staff helpful, friendly and welcoming. Very clean throughout and rooms refurbished, great beds, towels, etc. Breakfasts very good offering cereal, fruit, toast, and hot scrambledK egg, sausages, bacon, baked beans, hash browns, etc.
Negatives - Not suitable for the elderly as there are no lifts and many staiirs to two upstairs floors and also to basement rooms which have no windows! I feel the cost of basement windows should not be the same as for other floors. However they are well air conditioned and well appointed. Quite a few good eateries within a mile of Allison House. Buses at the door. Front entrance untidy, cigarette butts etc.
Good classic Guest House
Sethi_Gangaon 30/06/2017 10:26Situated about 2 Miles south of the city centre the hotel is well served by buses that run down the straight road into town. There are many shops and eating places along the way. I booked a standard double but was pleased to find myself in an enormous room with a super king size bed, a divan sofa and 3 armchairs. I could have sublet it for a conference.
The breakfast was slightly disappointing it was served buffet style, so you could have as much or as little as you wished. There was a nice selection of fruits. Melon, Peaches, Strawberries, Grapes, Pineapple and natural yoghurt. The cooked items contained only scrambled eggs, the bacon was always cold, the sausages were tasty but the hash browns, kept in a covered container became a little soggy and bland, beans were provided but no tomatoes or mushrooms.
So Very Accommodating! Four Nights We'd Happily Repeat!
Perry Gon 17/06/2017 19:52Our exceptional welcome to the Allison House began when we arrived six hours late due to British Airways canceling flights with their May 27/28 IT power loss. Switching to Virgin Trains East Coast saved our first nights stay and we were greeted at the door just before midnight with a huge measure of sympathy and welcome.
We were assisted to our spacious, clean and (what turned out to be) very quiet room (garden level) from where we explored Edinburgh the next three days. While breakfast was so very generous and fit my diet well, only fruit could be assured to suit my wife's strict GF+ diet. But when we brought home duck eggs (thank's to The Scottish Butcher), Christine was perfectly happy to prepare them according to my wife's appetite! What a fabulous time we had on our inaugural visit to Edinburgh - in great part, thanks to the staff of Allison House Hotel. We're very happy to recommend you stay there, too!
