What People are saying

I gave 1 star because 'no stars' was not an option

brimiller82on 12/08/2017 03:04

Where do I even begin?!? My family and I are frequent travelers to Waldport and we decided to stay in a different hotel than we normally do because of availability issues on a busy weekend. I found the Alsi Resort on expedia.com. I looked through all of the information that was listed on the webpage for the location. It looked like it would fit our needs well. I decided to call the hotel directly to ask about availability and got a nice gentleman that asked me the standard questions and gave me the rate of $119 + tax. I told him I would double check with the husband and call right back. Upon calling right back I got a woman on the phone. I started out with the standard questions and she informed me that there was only 1 room remaining and the rate was $296 + tax. WOW! A HUGE difference! I understand the idea of supply and demand that hotels have and I understand that they can, and do, adjust their rates accordingly. I informed her that I was just on the phone with another employee and told her the rate that he had quoted me. She huffed a little and said, "Oh that must be for the 'budget' room." I told her that he described it to me as a standard double queen room with a bay view. She told me that she has a room available that she could give me for that rate. Good! They honored their original quote. I reserved the room for 2 nights at the $119+ rate.
Upon checking in there was a gentleman that was working the front desk and he seemed to be new to the job and was very helpful and polite. As was the girl that was assisting him. That's where it started to go downhill! We headed down to our room and noticed that the hallways looked as if they had not been vacuumed all week. We found our room and went in. Having been on the road for a while to get to this location, we all had to use the restroom, I was first. I noticed that all of the tiling/grout in the shower/bath surround was nothing but solid black colored mold. The outer edges of the bathroom floor were dingy and dirty as well. Washing my hands, I had to go to on top of the refrigerator in the room to find the hand soap and hand towels. After seeing the shower in the condition it was in I decided to pull back the sheets on both of our queen beds. The bed closest to the window had hair all over and down toward the bottom there was dirt from where the guest before us had their feet. The sheets obviously had not been changed. I walked down to the front desk and asked them for 2 sets of linens so that I could change the bedding on the beds. The head housekeeper happened to be standing there when I was talking to the front desk staff. She told me that she would have to come down and inspect the bedding before she could give me new bedding. I told her that it wasn't necessary because my family and all of our belongings were already in the room and that I didn't mind changing the bedding myself. Well....she INSISTED that she needed to come down and inspect it first. Ok, sure. So we walked down to our room, and after assuring that everyone was decent in the room I allowed her in. She came in and asked me to show her what I was seeing. I showed her the hair and the dirt and she started to instantly get horribly mannered and huffy. She kept making excuses that it was all from the dryer. She stormed off and got new linens. When she got back to the room she asked me "if I 'needed' her to change the bedding or if I could do it myself". Well, 'Yes' I can do it myself. That's what I had intended to do in the beginning. When putting the new sheets on the bed I saw MANY stains on the clean linens that were of questionable nature. After finishing all of the bedding I sat down to relax.
I received a text message from my bank stating that I had been charged for the room. Perfect! EXCEPT for the fact that my card was charged an additional $50. I went down to the front desk again and asked for an itemization of our folio from check in. It was showing the correct amount. I asked them if they could explain why there was an additional charge and they couldn't. I told him I would just take it up with the bank because I wasn't sure what had happened.
At this point I am concerned as to the quality of a location that I had brought my children for the weekend. I talked it over with my husband and we decided it best to check back out and look for a different hotel to stay in. This decision was made 25 minutes after our check-in time. We collected our belongings and I headed down to the front desk for a 3rd time. I handed them the keys and my card and let them know that I have decided to check out and that I would like a refund. He (I believe the front desk manager) informed me that he could NOT offer me a refund for the entire amount! Wait...WHAT? He told me that he would have to send housekeeping down to the room to clean it and that "they have a mandatory '50% of the nights stay' charge even if we decide within the first few minutes that we weren't satisfied. I asked him if he could get his manager because I found that to be ridiculous! We had only just checked in! I wasn't going to pay $65 for being in a sub-par room for 25 minutes. The manager, Fez he called himself, came out and agreed that he was not going to refund me the full amount. I told him that if he decided that he wasn't going to refund my money, I was going to call the sheriff and I was going to sit outside and inform every guest that walks to the door how horribly I was treated. He asked me why I was checking out and I informed him that I wasn't satisfied with the cleanliness of the room and that I had to change the bedding in order to even sit on the beds. He told me "that was YOUR decision. The head housekeeper informed [him] that the bedding was NOT dirty and there was no need for it to be changed!" I told him that was indeed NOT the case. While he was working away at the front desk computer I pick up one of the business cards and ask him what his name was. He tells me, Fez. Then I ask him if he was the owner of the property and he tells me "no". I ask him for the name of the owner of the property and he tells me "I'm not comfortable giving you that information. Why do you need to know it?" I told him that I would like to make a phone call to him and discuss this issue further with him. At this point he stands up abruptly and pushes his chair in and tells me "I'm not comfortable giving you a refund AT ALL!" OK, now this is NOT OK!!! I asked him if it was just because I asked for the owner's information and he said "yes" and "now you are probably going to go and write all kinds of negative reviews for our hotel and I can't have that." I told him he needed to refund my money or I was going to call the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office. He pushed a button on the computer and said "there I refunded you the 50% for tonight's stay and 100% for tomorrow night's stay".
At this point I was so angry I was done arguing and decided to leave.
After we had gotten to our next hotel, The Adobe Resort (which is BEYOND amazing) my son realized that he had left his 3 pillows on the bed. So on Sunday afternoon when we were heading back past the Alsi Resort I stopped in and asked if they could get our pillows out of their lost and found for me. The nice girl (that was helping the other employee when we checked in) looked and couldn't find them. I looked at the other man (that I assumed before was the front desk manager) and I said no surprise! They had thrown our pillows away after we had left the hotel! Pretty sure that's against their policy!
So to make this really long review...even longer, this hotel should HARDLY be considered a 'Resort'. I would consider this a sub-par hotel with some unfortunate employees who are wonderful but will get clumped into a review with some absolutely horrible characters that run the place. It's a dive! It has SO MUCH potential! It's really sad to see properties like this being newly bought and run by people who just don't give a damn about their guests! I would highly advise AGAINST staying at this "RESORT" at ALL costs!!

Beautiful property

Reception Venue

We used the Alsi Resort for our Reception venue June 23. Management and Staff were the most helpful patiently answering our questions and working with us to make this a memorable occasion as well as go off smoothly. We rented several rooms for this occasion. The accommodations were clean, wonderful, and inviting. The cost was very affordable.

We had a dinner buffet for the reception. The food was amazing! The cost to rent the conference room and food was affordable. The view was amazing close to town and the beach.

We would recommend the Alsi Resort to anyone planning an event or just staying. Also loved the fact that there was a place to have a picnic and campfire along with a pool. We intend to stay here again and have other functions here as well.

Thank you for the amazing customer service and enjoyable stay.

Great location for a quiet stay

This was a nice hotel for a short stay near the coast. The room we stayed in was not a bay view but had nice, new carpet and was nice for the price. I wish there had been an air conditioner because leaving the windows open at night allowed smoke to come in the room from smokers outside. My family appreciated the delicious muffins and cereal and the fact we could return with it to our room. We also enjoyed the warm pool and the wonderful staff when we checked in. It is obvious that work is being done to improve the resort and I can't wait to see how wonderful it becomes in the next few years.

Great location with a nice river view

Friendly staff, a pretty river view, comfortable beds, a good restaurant and great spot for coastal exploration made Alsi resort the perfect place for our stay on the Oregon coast in June. Loved relaxing at the big picknick tables in the yard near the river.
