Family Run, Ideal Location, Incredible Food
TheMonkleson 29/09/2015 15:17This is an impeccably cared for hotel run by a delightful family. Even though it is just steps away from the train station and major cable car it is quiet and relaxing (remember: this is the end of the train line, so the trains come and go quietly).
Other than lovely rooms One of the real gems of this place is the kitchen. The chef is a wizard. The wine list thoughtfully put together. The service is efficient and delightful.
As for the price keep in mind this is Switzerland after all. And included with the price here is a very useful transit card that makes exploring this region a breeze. Just that, along with the multi-course meals, actually makes staying here quite affordable.
This makes an ideal base to explore from Which to one of Switzerland's best kept secrets. The Lower Engadine Valley.
Delightful Surprise
tojo25Visaliaon 21/09/2015 18:00Expensive, yes, but everything in Switzerland is. Not everything is as nicely appointed and superbly located a the Altana, however. We happened on the hotel serendipitously and enjoyed the stay, dinner and breakfast. As part of our stay we were given free passes on the gondola which allowed us to go on a short hike to the next village and catch a bus back. The pass also allowed for the use of the train. The bus, train and gondola are only a stones throw away from the hotel. The proprietors are gracious and their place is as clean as a whistle. We particularly enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant; the flowers, cutlery, tablecloths and certainly the food. All in all, a delightful surprise.
Hotel Altana Vacation Visit

This family owned and operated hotel should be a model for others in how to make guests feel welcome, in providing comfortable and well equipped rooms and an exceptional dining room which serves star rated meals. I have had multiple stays to the Altana and each visit has been so pleasant and relaxing. With its perfect location it is immediately accessible to transportation and the ski lifts - what could be better!
Very Pleasant Surprise

The room was spacious and well equipped.
Had a dinner which was the best we have had since arriving in Switzerland. Mint and chestnut soup was delicious. Trout for me and liver for hubby.
Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone for either an overnight stopover or if you enioy the local walking or sports.
Awesome food, very clean, excellent family run hotel
S Kon 14/08/2015 18:40Very clean, spacious, quiet room, and spotless bathroom. Great views of the Engadin mountain ranges. Very close to the train station and ski lift. Close to the Scuol Bogn (bath). Amazing tasting menu for dinner with local beers, soups, and meats. Breakfast buffet is exceptional with cheeses and meats and made to order omlettes! Best of all the front desk and the restaurant are headed by the family and they have a very helpful attitude.
