Top notch castle experience with fine restaurants in house

It is just a comfortable 25 minutes drive away from Cologne.
The staff is friendly and speaks good English.
They also have a great selection of restaurants I was really pleased with.
Customer service not consistent with staff
LouandDecon 29/05/2017 23:08This is our last evening at the hotel. Up to tonight the service has been excellent and the staff could not be more helpful, polite and more than accommodating. However, we decided to have dinner at the restaurant within the bar tonight. The food was more then disappointing but worse than that the service by the female member of staff was appalling. The bar was not busy in fact there was only one other couple having dinner. The female member of staff who serviced us was unhelpful, rude and our presence there was an inconvenient to her. Having had such a lovely experience in such a beautiful hotel this was very disapponting and left us with a very negative impression. This is so sad as the rest of the staff have been so welcoming especially the staff on reception.
Impressive Settings
Dimitry Von 25/05/2017 08:31Luxurious hotel in a magnificent, very well maintained castle. The interior and room decoration are superbly blending with the exterior, which gives a big 'grandeur' feeling at the property. The room was big, with nice bathroom (although I don't like to shower in the bathrub) and comfortable beds. We had a nice dinner in the Italian restaurant, where I especially liked the desert (a creative panna cotta). I ended the evening with a grappa in the nice bar. I didn't use the spa, so can't say anything about this. The breakfast was OK, but indeed quite modest if you compared with other five star hotels where I stayed. It was in the Italian restaurant, which is in terms of place not very well suited (too little space) to present a big,wel diversified buffet. The staff of the hotel was helpfull and friendly, like you expect in a hotel
I can't judge the price/quality, since I didn't pay the bill (was invited).
Overall a satisfying experience, with especially the exterior of the hotel which will stay in my mind.
Great hotel but not a convincing 5*
David Don 08/05/2017 15:03The first impression is great and what an entrance when you drive through the gate! The room was very beautiful, big size beds and the good bathroom. Very friendly staff. Gym with good with new equipment. The hotel has nice surroundings (perfect to go out for a walk). The interior of the hotel is very cozy and luxurious!. But some things could have been better/different which makes the difference between a 4* and 5* hotel. A simple refreshment drink (soda or tea…) in the lobby would be nice when arriving after a long drive. Unfortunately there was no coffee machine in the room. The spa consists ‘only’ of 2 sauna’s and a steam cabin with was not working due to technical failure that weekend. In the spa area there is limited space to sit down or relax therefore you need to go to the pool area. Water bottles were available in the pool area but it would be nice if there was some fresh water with lime, lemon,…or tea in the spa area. Although there is a separate area for woman only including sauna and steam cabin.
Like mentioned also by lots of others the break breakfast is just too expensive for what you get. For that amount you just expects more choice, a more cozy setting since the breakfast room can become a bit crowded and depending on the where you sit you do not really have a calm breakfast. We also think it is exaggerated to pay extra for waffles or special egg dish like eggs Benedict (17€). On Sundays the breakfast is ‘only’ till 10.30 when on Saturday its till 11.00. We were told because of the brunch that starts at early afternoon on Sunday (this should not be influencing the guests staying there for the night..)
The first evening we had dinner in the Dali bar. Although the staff was super friendly, the food could not persuade us. For that price you just expect something better than a restaurant you go to anywhere in the city.
We ended our weekend at the hotel with an overall unsatisfied feeling. The location and the castle are indeed superb and the whole exterior as the interior looks amazing, including the rooms but the little extras that's makes it a 5* hotel are missing. And therefore we find it overpriced.
Beautiful castle/hotel with excellent service
PRW67on 30/04/2017 19:09fantastic hotel with a nice spa/fitness area. Very quiet, great service. Restaurants in the hotel were overpriced, especially the italian restaurant (€31 for two glasses of, admittedly good, wine was a bit too much).
