Big apartment on edge of Alvor

We spent a week at Alto Fairways and the apartments are really spacious. If there was a rating between average and very good I would have selected this.

Apartment
It was clean and well maintained. The apartments are large (we stayed in a 2 bed apartment).They have air conditioning in each bedroom and the main living area. We stayed in July and the temperature was nearly 40 degrees so it was needed!! To start with the worst thing for me, it was the beds. The mattresses appear to be well worn and I suggested they need replacement. I mentioned this when leaving and from the reaction I got I would say this has been mentioned before to the staff. In terms of the apartment- the kitchen has all normal appliances including a dish washer.

Location
From other reviews you can see it's a little hard to find. It was not that easy as the sign is a little small and could do with being larger. If you get a taxi or drive out the M531-1 past Big Reds restaurant (on the left) there is a right turn within 50-100 yards (sign post for Vila Marachique also) and it's down this road. Once you turn on to this road the surface seems to deteriorate but does get better as you near the Alto fairways. The M531-1 is a busy road and can be a little difficult to turn on to due to traffic. It is wrapped around some of a golf course so no high rise buildings looking at you.

Pools:
The site is split into 2 blocks and there is a kid’s pool and an adult pool for each section. I must admit they are a little small. There are sun beds but not a huge amount. We went early in the morning and late in the evening (due to the high temperatures) and did not have a problem. There are no parasols.

General complex
There is no shop or bar which the complex could do with and this was a shame. The nearest shop is about amount 20 minutes away and a supermarket is further. The intermarche just off the main roundabout is a little small. Pingo Doca on the far side of town was better. We had a car and you really need one staying at this complex.

Cleaning staff
A special mention to the cleaning staff, every evening when we returned the cleaning staff had made a decorative shape on the beds with their pj's. This was a nice touch for the children.

Additional info:
The apartments are cleaned every day bar Sunday. Reception closes at 7pm and if you need maintenance for any reason they finish at 6pm. Recycling point is near reception for plastic, bottles, etc. There is an underground car park for each block which unfortunately was never mentioned. It might have been a help to keep the car cool. People moved into the apartment next to us and you could hear quite a bit of chairs and stuff being moved. I would think there is little insulation between the apartments. The air conditioning units are on the balcony area so if one of your group are sitting out the heat is very notable coming from the units.

Nice apartments, but could be so much better

We spent a week at alto fairways, the apartments are really new and spacious. They was clean and well maintained. The main problem with alto fairways is the location, its pretty much in the middle of nowhere. You have to walk around 20 to the nearest shop and when there's complexes in alvor already who will have small basic shops on site it seems a bit daft to have to walk all that way. The pool is also small, the website advertises it as 2 child pools and 2 adult ones but this isn't the case, there's one of each and they are both small. There's no sub beds to use on the complex either. It just seems like its still a working progress and they're missing some fundamentals. The women on reception was no help at all. The kitchen when you arrive has no basic essentials and you have to get every single thing yourself. In a few years if they then have a shop and some more pool/sun bathing facilities i may consider returning but until then it makes way more sense to stay across the road at the Priahna complex which is much better.

We came to Alvor for a weeks skydiving and stayed at Alto Fairways.

The apartment we stayed in (E) was basic but very clean and well equipped. I think it must have recently been redecorated as the kitchen was like new and the fridge looked like it had never been used. The kitchen has a microwave, 4 ring hob, kettle, full size dishwasher, fridge, freezer and washing machine.

The pools are nice although we didn't use them.

Clean towels and a clean everyday.

Perfect for what we needed it for. Literally the only 2 (tiny!) gripes are that there are no scissors in the kitchen and no cafetière or coffee machine. I'm scraping around for those two complaints though! It's perfect really.

Stunning Apartments in Alvor

First time here and I will return. The apartments are huge... big lounge, big bedrooms and everything you could need has been provided. The kitchen has all you could want including toaster, microwave, fridge-freezer, washing machine, dishwasher and small things that make a big difference like electric whisk to mix eggs etc. The location is great, just a few minutes from Alvor and with easy access via the N125 to all other popular towns. The apartments are well maintained with cleaning daily and helpful reception staff available 24/7. The lounge has a 42" LCD TV with cable/satellite TV including English channels and modern DVD Player that can accept a USB Stick to playback movies. The air-conditioning/heating is efficient and split systems have separate remote controls for each bedroom and the lounge. The quality of furnishings and the surroundings are hard to fault here. Only negative is Internet access. The apartments are wired for Ethernet networking but when I visited that facility was not available which was a shame as it would have made the facility 100% perfect. I solved the problem with a local SIM card and mobile tethering .... I am sure in peak season Fairways will have the Ethernet working. Highly Recommended apartments for location, service and facilities.

awful, rude staff, dirty room on arrival, broken window

on arrival our room was dirty, we were given an apartment that had not been cleaned before our arrival and had dirt from previous guests, we were told no other room was available and we had to wait for the room to be cleaned, although we seen many empty apartments. Stayed for 1 week and did not feel safe in the location. not much security measures taken for safety and felt dangerous at night time. staff were unhelpful and rude most of the time when we asked what activities where available for children, the guy at reception did not even look at us and handed up tourist brochures without even looking or saying a word to us. our apartment needed work, window in kitchen was broken and would not lock, same as one of the doors leading onto balcony. spider webs and spiders all over ac and outside, children were too scared to come outside. apartments are a good distance from any shops or any other place, very isolated an again roads are dark and unsafe do not waste money by staying here, Alvor is a beautiful town with many beautiful hotels that will make you enjoy your holiday, this is not one of them places
