Must visit
JP Son 18/08/2017 19:58We booked at this establishment because of the erea, although there was some bad reviews.
We stayed for 3 nights and had a wonderful time. Great walks, scenery and unbelievable good restaurants.
Our room was in the main building, with a view of the harbour and was big enough.
This town is really very special and still unspoiled.
Spiders and spiderwebs
Mikael Son 15/07/2017 21:41Very spartan room in "zum piraten". There was spiders and spiderwebs in the room when we arrived. The house had a somewhat weird smell to it. More like a simple hostel. We also had trouble finding our room since it wasn't numbered. The owner lady was very friendly though.
Very Peaceful and Relaxing
Offshore2longon 20/07/2016 22:10I had the pleasure of staying at the hotel for about 2-/2 weeks.
I can't recall a more relaxing, long stay. For the first few nights, my room was in the main house. The room was clean and quite. The furnishings are a bit spartan; but, certainly comfortable.
For the final couple weeks, I had a sea view room. It was very comfortable and very quiet. The view was beautiful. But, it was in the second house. There is no Wi-Fi in that building. So, I spent every morning sitting in the breakfast dining area in the main house so I could (sometimes) get a Wi-Fi connection which I needed for work every day.
Breakfast is quite simple.
The owner is a lovely lady. She speaks somewhere in the neighborhood of a bazillion languages, and greets and chats with everyone at breakfast.
I'll definitely stay again.
Room with see view.
Karolina Non 04/05/2016 12:41Great located. Recommend booking see view it is really amazing. You can add breakfast for €7 or €8 but we didn't and we have to paid €1,5 when we wanted tea or coffee. €5 per day for cat. Nice atmosphere.
Very bad experience! Never again.
Michal Von 03/08/2015 09:25Very bad experience! Never again. Western German prices for Eastern standards (if European standard at all). The location is great but the hotel functioning is apparently based on the assumption that most customers never return. We travelled as a family. When we arrived, we were accommodated not in the Am Ostseegarten hotel but in a hotel “Zum Piraten”. The room was shabby with dirty carpet on the floor, dust, uncleaned washbasin and stinking toilet. Most guests are apparently accommodated there. Given that we travelled for nearly 700 km with two small kids (year and three years old) and every accommodation on the Rugen Island was occupied we had no choice but to stay. A German family who accommodated themselves in the same time requested 50% discount and left immediately the other day. There was no WiFi in the hotel and we needed to go to the Am Ostseegarten hotel to use internet. They do not accept MasterCards and Visa cards (or better to say – they do but you need to argue about it). Regular cleaning of the room consists solely from waste disposal. On one very cold evening there was no hot water available. Despite the web page suggests that children are welcomed when we arrived nothing was prepared for our children and the receptionist (and perhaps owner in the same person?) even wanted us to leave (though this was perhaps a problem of Booking.com, I do not know to be honest). Anyway, despite the web based information is that children below 4 are for free when using the existing beds , we were asked to pay for them extra (without receiving any extra service). In total, we were forced to pay ca 720 Euros for six nights for accommodation where I would not stay willingly if I had any option to choose and the receptionist asked us to leave one day earlier despite having the room booked – this was due to some confusion in her dates of our arrival and departure (I refused). Vary bad experience indeed. Rugen is an nice island but this really spoiled our holiday.
