Trying to find the Hotel was a problem but we got there eventually thanks to two Policeofficers who gave us a lift! The hotel is basic but had everything we needed. The room we had was very big and had a lovely balcony. It is situated on a busy road and as it was very warm we had to keep windows open. This was a problem overnight as it was noisy. They really should invest in air conditioning!! Lots of shops/restaurants nearby and a ins walk to rail station. The one minus is that I would like to have been nearer central Berlin

For this price you can find something better

We arrived there and the experience with the hotel was not good. The receptionist was very unfriendly. We were locked out twice and it took a long time until we could get in. Once we went back to the apartment and they had closed down the main door and asking for money from .

At best a place to lay your head

An interesting experience. During my whole time there I never met anyone - except the serving staff at the breakfast bar in the restaurant at the bottom of the building (which BTW was pretty good). Your key is presented to you after you electronically identify yourself and without the aid of lights (I arrived at night) and with very poor signage (irrespective of the lighting level) I took quite a while to locate the floor I was on leave aside the room I was in. Once inside the accommodation was very basic but quite adequate and probably value for money int eh circumstance. While the attractions are a bit of a walk from the accommodation - they are not so far as to be a deterrent. There is good supermarket shopping nearby and a number of good restaurants. If it's convenience, no bother and bit of isolation you are seeking - look no further.

Basic hotel, good location, staff speak zero English.

Arrived at this hotel late at night after a nine hour train journey to find check in was on a machine, a machine which did not recongise my booking. Fustrated I contacted several numbers, all of which would not connect until there was one number that did. I was told to wait five minutes and fifteen minutes later a flustered looking man arived to check us in. Speaking the most basic English and me speaking only basic German it was extremely difficult to communicate with staff during our stay. The hotel is in a very good location and the facilities of kitchen and bathroom are great. Except there are no cooking trays in the kitchen. (Sounds picky but when you buy chicken to cook and then have to use a saucepan, its fustrating.) Clean and basic, excellent value for money.

Happy New Year in single beds!

Christopher Mon 12/04/2013 20:13

We stayed in the Amary City Residence over New Year. Although we enjoyed the trip to Berlin immensely, the 'bed situation' as it came to be known still haunts me when I'm in my double bed at night.

The apartments itself are fairly good value, but for what amounted to about 65 pound a night I'd expect a double room after quite clearly requesting it. The photographs on the website are very misleading, if you look closely they are actually single beds pushed together (with a double duvet/sheet). This would have been inconvenient but tolerable. However, upon arrival at the residence, we were given a room with two single beds; the mattresses in these beds were set in a wooden frame so it was near impossible to put them together. We tried putting the mattresses on the floor, but this resulted in them sliding on the laminate flooring. When we asked for a double sheet/duvet to try and make our experience a bit more comfortable the apartment did not stock them. We were also told that every room in the entire complex comprised of two single beds (and there were no double rooms despite the website stating this). I complained numerous times, even once to booking.com who we booked through which cost around £10 in international call charges, but were told that they couldn't do anything as the photographs uploaded are technically - well disguised - single beds.

Other than that the apartments are fairly clean and in a good location near a major shopping centre which contains three supermarkets. The linen was clean, we enjoyed the long sofa, fridge/oven all in working order, bathroom was okay. Apartment could definitely do with a microwave, toaster and kettle (which to me are fairly basic appliances for a temporary 'home'). The balcony provided a lovely view. The apartment provided an excellent way of accessing Berlin by the U-Bahn stations close-by. Though the complex could definitely do with a 24 hour service line/extra security. One night we returned and a rather loud group of young men had set off fire extinguishers in the corridor, and muttered something at my pretty wife.

To be honest, the apartment itself is a fairly good standard, and I'm sure we'd have enjoyed the stay more without the 'bed situation' which left somewhat of a sour taste.
