Unfortunately we only had the one night here, but would gladly have stayed longer. Lively, friendly hotel with a great restaurant. Great atmosphere and very convenient for sightseeing. The staff are welcoming and couldn't do enough for you.

Nice but far too hot

Another return to Brig which is fondly remembered by my wife who lived there many years ago. And our second stay at The Ambassador, although the previous stay was when the temperature in Brig was not constantly in the high 30’s as this time and which for us Englanders is unpleasant but which the locals seem to consider as just warm. We had to go up into the mountains each day just to try and stay cool, but even at 3000 mtrs the temperature was still around the 20’s. As before a pleasant welcome awaited us to this clean and family run hotel, situated at the junction of two quiet streets in a residential area not far from the station. There is good onsite parking at the back of the hotel and the hotel has the benefit of a lift. There is a small discrete outside dining terrace covered in vines for shade which was most welcome given the temperature. Although on our last stay we had booked a luxury room, this time we booked a standard room which was smaller but perfectly functional, clean, had wood flooring, and with a small but practical bathroom. However the room being on a corner meant the windows faced south and west so the sun heated the room most of the day. In the UK you open windows to cool a room but here in Brig it simply got hotter. The secret was to pull down and close the external blinds in a morning and close the triple glazed windows to keep the heat out. But, the room was without air con and when returning in the afternoon was unbearably hot. So we bought a fan from the local Migros supermarket and enjoyed some cool breeze, although air con would have been preferable and it is strange that given this hotel was extensively refurbished a few years ago this was not installed. I wonder why the owners don’t acquire a few portable air con units to hire out to those guests who want to stay cool ? The room had excellent WiFi, a safe and a fridge, but the latter was in the wardrobe and gave off heat so clothes in there got warm. An extensive and very pleasant breakfast buffet was to be had in the most beautiful dining room imaginable with a stained glass roof panel and retro tiled walls depicting old Switzerland scenes. And dining outside every evening as we did, the choice and quality of food and wines was excellent as was the service. I am sure we will return to Brig, and yes, stay at The Ambassador. But not in mid Summer.

Well-run hotel

The Ambassador was fine for an overnight stop. Only major shortcoming was lack of aircon, but they did provide a fan and we got good airflow through via the windows.

Reception staff extraordinarily helpful- e.g rushed up a softer pillow when requested.

Restaurant and bar service were very good. Prices were expensive but no worse than anywhere comnparable in Switzerland.

Breakfast (included) served in a charming room and was very adequate - everything you could reasonably want, all fresh and well done. Good free wifi.

Hotel was spotlessly clean. Parking out back (free!) was easy. Staff friendly and helpful.

Recommended.

Very nice hotel with a very good restaurant

DandDon 11/07/2017 15:53

The hotel is only 5 minute walk from the station in a quiet part of town. The room and bathroom were small for a 4* hotel but very clean. The breakfast also included scrambled egg and bacon as well as a plentiful cold buffet. We opted for half board. Although the menu had no choice we were always asked if it was OK and they changed anything we did not like. The food was always very good.
Brig is a good place to travel from. We had spent the previous few day in St Moritz and arrived on the Glacier Express.
We booked through The Swiss Holiday Company which was very easy and good value. Not only did they book the flights and hotels but also trains including the Bernina and Glacier Expresses. They gave us a detailed itinerary including which rail platforms.each day.

Great hotel

This hotel has all you need for a relaxing break. On arrival the staff are welcoming and friendly with good English. The food in the restaurant is varied, reasonable by Swiss standards and of an excellent standard. My only gripe is that there is no air conditioning and as the temperature was over 30 degrees the rooms at times felt unbearable. It is close to the station and local shops and town centre, as the weather was exceptional for the area we would stay again.
