Fantastic Balcony Room with Ocean View

210silkehon 28/06/2017 16:44

Just spent the weekend there for a family party. Awesome location. Excellent staff and wonderful foodin the restaurant "Sandperle". The view from our balcony onto the salt marsh and the boardwalk to the North Sea was fantastic. Highly recommend paying extra for a balcony room with ocean view. We were on the 4th floor. Did not utilize the spa, but the prices were quite reasonable compared to US prices. Visitor's tax ("Kurtaxe") is not included in the room price (EUR 3 pp per day). Would go back in a heart beat.

Get a room with seaview

Seattle94on 25/07/2016 20:52

In this hotel it is worth having sea view. You will have stunning sun sets and not a boring parking lot. Breakfast is nice. Rooms are clean and pretty spacious. The atmosphere is though for seniors. At breakfast we felt like the only non-Germans and the only ones below 65.... The hotel should though provide with beach towels, it is a beach hotel. Very good location, if you want to hit the beach.

Great hotel for a long weekend

We spent a long weekend in this hotel with the entire family. It was really nice and we enjoyed our stay. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Breakfast was really good and easy going to stay with small children.

not worth the money

KrisCobainon 27/07/2015 15:58

Me, my sister and my mother went here for a 4 day stay. On last minute I decided to bring my Pomeranian dog with us. Normally dogs are, when stated on the website, always welcome, especially tiny ones like mine. Here was that unfortunately not the case.
When we arrived we wanted to check in, but since we did not tell them before that we bring a dog, we had a discussion with the reception since all rooms at the dog level (!!?) of the hotel were already fully booked. As an alternative we got offered a smokers room, which we declined. In the end we had to accept a first floor room with view over the entrance and Edeka market across and they charged us for every night 10 Euro + 45 Euro room cleaning costs. They told we need to pay it because they would need to clean the room properly afterwards.
In the restaurant people with dogs need to sit in a special area to not annoy other guests. My dog sat the whole time quietly in her back, which we put on a chair. The waitress came after some minutes to us and said we need to place the dog on the ground since it would be unhygienic.

Another big issue was the service. In the whole hotel the service seemed to be misplaced. At the breakfast I told the waiter to change the table cloth because it was dirty from previous guests, also there was a big hair on the table. He refused to change the 2 table clothes and just took the hair with his fingers away. We opted for another table instead.
Also we got asked daily from the same waiters after our name. After 4 nights at the same place with several lunches and breakfast it is pretty rude to constantly give people the feeling they sneaked in.

The breakfast itself was mediocre. For an hotel of this size and at high season one tiny buffet station is just not enough. There was always a line for everything. I also noticed that several grown up guests had no issues with using their hands to reach for food. That is disgusting.
Another thing, at a room rate of 200 euro per night in my opinion the service should serve not just coffee at the table. All hot beverages should be served. The breakfast room is quite large and running around for Lattes and teas is just annoying. Juices were also not fresh.

The room itself was ok, a bit outdated and in need of modernisation. The shower is a bathtub where one needs to literally climb in to shower. That can be pretty dangerous, especially for older people.
The Babor amenities were a plus. Beds were ok, but not especially comfy.
Another thing was the carpet. The carpet is a flokati carpet, which I find personally at a hotel unhygienic since all guests walk over it with their shoes or bare feet.
Wifi was for free, but had a bad connection.

One of the advantages of this hotel is the nearness to the beach. We had dinner one evening and it was good too.

Overall we would not return to this hotel and also not recommend it. We expected a solid 4 star hotel, but got an overpriced 3 star hotel. Also guests with dogs are treated 2. class and if we would have known that we would have never booked it.

clean, comfortable room, inconsistent servcie

chic2007on 19/09/2013 22:31

We stayed here for 2 nights, two rooms. Hotel is located right across the beach front and has a direct connection to the beach (5-10min. walk). Rooms are clean and comfortable, but not luxury. Breakfast is very good, great selection of cold and hot food.

Front desk staff are extremely pleasant, remember you by name. Very impressive. Dinner at the restaurant is not consistent. 1st night, food was excellent. 2nd night, food was ok. Restaurant staff are nice overall. What really spoiled our experience was the restaurant manager.

We dined at the restaurant for both nights. As we loved our food/service on the 1st night, we made a reservation for a table by the window for the 2nd night (specifically assigned by a staff taking the reservation.) When we arrived the next day at reservation time, our table was given away. Instead of apologizing for the mistake, the restaurant manager told us:" I told you that your table was not available. I AM the manager, only what I say counts. Nobody can make reservation without me". When we inquired about tables for an alternative, the manager initially refused to make any effort and told us that the only table available was the one right by the entrance (although many tables were empty for the whole night). Through out the evening, he never apologized.

Later, the manager was also the main server of our table. Three times, we didn't have the proper silverware and had to ask for it. We were completely deserted at one point, and had to wait for a long time for our check until we finally got the attention of a bartender far away at the bar area.

Our experience with the restaurant manager left us with a bad taste. We will stay at a different hotel the next time.
