What People are saying
There are much better places to stay.
jgreer001on 25/08/2017 16:27We came to St. Joseph for the eclipse. The town itself is lovely. This hotel, however, is run down and worn. The hall carpets smelled strongly of cleaner which gave my husband a headache. The hotel allows pets, therefore the barking dog next door was audible. I couldn't be sure, but one day I thought I smelled a whiff of urine on the carpet. The daily continental breakfast was less than average. The room itself had a window facing an empty field and the highway, and a man was able to walk past it. Luckily he didn't stare into the room. We kept the shades drawn after that at all times. There was no closet, only a short area to hang clothes, and part of that space was taken up by the refrigerator. The bathroom was tiny with no place to hang towels except on the door and the threshold between the room and the bathroom was broken. It was easy to walk on it an move it off the floor. The sheets were rough and worn. The beds creaked and groaned. The air conditioner was noisy, caused the window shades to flutter up, and looked like it was falling apart at the seams.
On the positive side, the staff was friendly and there were no bedbugs (I always check, even in fancy hotels.)
On the whole, we'd rather stay in another hotel in St. Joseph.
Great stay
janetbD6291GZon 22/08/2017 04:24This property is as nice as the high price properties. Convenient location. The bed was so cushy and comfortable. Linens are nice, not threadbare nor stained. Bathroom is small, but serves the purpose. I arrived early, and they did their best to get me a room as soon as possible.

The Good
The room rate did not gouge the guests coming in to see the Eclipse.
The staff was friendly and helpful.
The location is close (walking distance) to restaurants, a mall and drugstores.
The Bad
The property is old and has needed TLC for a long time. The hallways smelled of strong carpet cleaner. I guess it masked other less pleasant odors.
The sheets did not fit the old, worn and stained mattress. The carpet in the room was stained and cigarette burned (smoking room was the only room available). The room smelled of cigarettes, normal for a smoking room, but the front desk said it had been cleaned so well it could be either smoking or non-smoking. Not.
It was okay for one night. I didn't see any bugs, so that was good. I would stay somewhere else next time.
Good for the price!
WhirledPeason 20/08/2017 16:26This isn't a fancy hotel, but it's clean. The beds are doubles, I think, and not queens. We have a queen at home, and the bed seems smaller. It's comfortable, though! The bathroom needs a little help, but nothing too terrible. Some of the trim is missing, the shower drips, and the toilet lid is scratched up. There is a fridge and microwave in the room. There's breakfast in the morning. As other reviewers mentioned, the waffle mix was sour and had gone bad. So, really, the only choices were cereal, toast, and little pastries. It's not filling, but it's nice to have something, especially considering the cheap room rate.
If I'd paid $100 or more, I'd be disappointed in this hotel. We're paying less than $80/night, and during the eclipse too, so I worried this place would be horrible. It's not. I'm giving it 4 stars because it's a good value.
Just ok.
Jro2480on 11/08/2017 19:01Front desk staff was friendly and helpful but the area looked a bit sketchy. Plenty of room to park our truck and trailer. The mattresses in the room need some attention. Very old and out of shape. The room was clean but was a bit dated. Easy on and off from the freeway. Restaurants nearby. Nice flat screen TV's with numerous channels available. Free Wi-Fi and breakfast. Laundry facilities available. Nothing fancy but it was okay.
