Grandma and the toilet
texsunnon 08/08/2017 03:48Checking into our room, we discovered that we had one of those 13" high commodes in the toilet.
The good news. Maybe they have one of those 4” plastic, toilet riser things at the front desk; they clamp on to the toilet; “I’ll check with Barb at the front desk.”
The bad news. Barb: “I’m sorry, we do not have any of those.”
The good news. Conversation ensues . . .
Me: (With yet another bright idea): “Do you think they’d have any of those commode risers
over at the ShopKo store? If they do, I could buy one, use it for the week, and leave it
here so you folks could use it in the future.”
Barb: “Would you like me to call over there to check?”
Me: “Yes, please.”
Barb: “OK. I’ll check the price, too.”
Barb: To ShopKo person: “Hi, this is Barb over at AmericInn. Do you have one of those . . . .”
The great news. They have one! Price is $20.
The good news. Telephone conversation ensues . . .
Barb: “Great, please set it aside and I will ask Mr. Sunn to come by to pick it up.”
To me: “Can you go over to ShopKo and get it?”
Me: “Sure.”
Barb: To ShopKo person: “Mr. Sunn will be over in a few minutes to pick it up. Please
charge it to the AmericInn account; you have the account specifics.”
Wow. Such wonderful and compassionate service!
I write this missive for two reasons. First, I think that all too often, exceptional effort goes unrecognized. We tend to take time to complain, but we tend not to take time to compliment. I believe good service occurs far more frequently than poor service and we should invest time in praise when compliments are warranted.
The second, of course, is to let you know how pleased we are with Barb’s “Beyond the Call” service. She truly went out of her way to ensure a comfortable stay for us and for grandma. We’d have happily paid the relatively minor cost of the riser and we’d have been pleased to leave it here for the AmericInn’s future use. Barb’s kindness and concern was exemplary.
“Thank you” to all the staff here at this customer-friendly inn for providing us with such a relaxing stay—despite renovation work. Desk staffers were friendly and helpful; breakfasts were both plentiful and tasty; and housekeeping staff were courteous, efficient, and thorough. We sincerely enjoyed our stay.
The best news. We’ll stay here many times in the future; it is my “happy place.”
Good Option for the Area
krice23on 07/08/2017 15:01This hotel was perfect for what we needed. You can't find much up there, so clean and inviting is all you can ask for. The hotel lobby was nice, and rooms were nice. Bathrooms were very small and outdated, but again- they were clean and that is was matters most.

Michtexon 21/07/2017 15:50We have stayed here before and enjoyed than and now again. They are remodeling and updating, but it didn't effect our stay.
The issue I have is the 5% tourism tax they charged us for the state of Michigan. There isn't any tourism tax in the upper Michigan. So I rated it poor because of the 5% not real tax.

cyd_the_redon 14/07/2017 17:57We stayed here a year ago and did not like it at all. Since then the friendliness of the staff has improved. Also, the lobby was torn apart as they are putting in new flooring in the lobby. Hoping that they will be giving the whole hotel an update as it is sorely needed. Overall, this is probably the best hotel to stay at in the area.

johnhG9896VLon 14/07/2017 17:39Nice place, good location, and comfortable rooms. The breakfast is nice and the rooms are nice. It is located right off of US-2 so it is convenient and within walking distance of places to eat and drink.
