What People are saying

Good Place to Stay

S3302ZIjustinbon 11/07/2017 15:48

Definitely the best option in town. Renovation looks like it is going as planned. Rooms seem a bit furniture tight, but makes up for it with a good sized bathroom and closet. Looks like more could be available given the size of the entry area. The features allow room for better seating, a larger coffee bar with pastries, and relaxed contemporary art/features. Overall great optics.

Great stay!

I would stay here again. We traveled from Northern VA and stayed here overnight on the way to Nashville. Our room was very clean and spotless. The bed and pillows were comfy. The hotel did not seem very busy which was nice.

Drive 10 more minutes to Johnson City... it will be worth your time

Cindy Gon 07/07/2017 01:45

Recently had an extended stay at this location. The beds were not high end mattresses that you hope for in a hotel stay. The bed frame had been incorrectly put together according to the front desk and a bar stuck out from under the bed frame that we kept hitting our ankle on when walking to the bed. We reported several times that we did not have hot water only warm in the shower. The quality of breakfast food was mediocre and housekeeping spent more time hanging out at the front desk than working. We were at the hotel for almost a week before I determined that there was actual tile in the pool area because it looked like cinder block walls. The lobby area appears to be under construction but when talking to staff we learned it had been that way for some time and they were unsure when anything would be completed. Wifi is spotty. I am a huge fan of the beautiful town of Jonesborough but I strongly urge you to drive 10 extra minutes and stay in a nicer hotel in Johnson City.

Great place! Great staff!

Place was quiet, the free breakfast was nice, and everything was clean. Some renovation was going on, but I didn't notice it. Also left my laptop, and the staff made sure to get it back to me in a few days. I'd definitely recommend staying.

Perpetual remodel...but no actual work being done.

We stayed here twice last month. When there the first time, I noticed that a remodel appeared to be in progress so I overlooked things like abrupt carpet transitions ("I guess they have to stop somewhere at the end of the day"), no towels in the bathroom, they're sitting out on the dresser in the middle of the room ("I guess they haven't put the shelves or hooks in the bathroom yet"), scary exposed wiring and burned---literally, charred---non GFCI outlets in the pool area ("they must be in the process of replacing the lighting"), equipment and construction materials all over the place, etc. I don't know how many remodels this place has been through, but if they do any more tub-relining/drop-ceiling combinations, regular-height people wont be able to stand up in the shower anymore. When there the second time, I noticed nothing appeared to have progressed since the first visit so I looked a little more closely: the dates on the paint cans (from when the colors were mixed) were January 2017, the new carpet was showing wear like it had been there for a while already, the soda machine that was out of order on the first visit was out of order on the second visit as well, the construction dumpster in the parking lot only had old, soggy construction debris in it. It was like a remodel started in January and they ran out of money or something. Not to gripe continuously here, but I think they must be desperately short-staffed as well because every time I went near the front desk, day or night, the same woman was working. Either she doesn't sleep or she has a twin sister. She was always very civil but every time I asked her a question there was a pause like I did something wrong. (My husband says that it's because I talk so fast with a northern accent that people in Tennessee have to take a moment to process/translate what I just said so maybe that's the case here!) My room key stopped working and she said it was because I must have put it next to my phone. One of us forgot our toothbrush and they didn't have any at the desk. They had no quarters at the desk for guest laundry. Each of these requests felt like an imposition on the staff. We returned from town right before 11:00am to pack up our things and check out, and the room phone rang at 11:15. It was that one employee, informing us that checkout time WAS 11. Granted, we didn't request a "late checkout" or anything, but there wasn't another guest left in the place so it's not like they weren't going to have the room ready if we left 20 minutes late. The same message could have been communicated by saying, "can I arrange a late checkout for you, our valued Club Carlson members, if you need more time this morning?" Instead it felt like, "get out and don't let the door hit you in the butt". The breakfast was "eh" (only ok) for selection and quality, but clean which is most important to me. The person attending it seemed to want to hide from people and not be asked for anything, which was interesting when I noticed a tip jar! I've only seen that one other time at a hotel free breakfast buffet, and it was also in a lower-than-standard Country Inn & Suites. Interesting strategy. I realize that I have griped quite a bit in this review and I want to make it clear that I do intend to go back, if for no other reason just to see if the remodel has progressed at all! Seriously, though, nothing was bad enough to chase us away, but it was enough to make us notice things which would otherwise probably be overlooked. I was on the fence between "average" and "very good" because we did have a clean room, the price was reasonable, the hotel was very quiet, and best of all was the location! You walk out the back of the parking lot and you can travel back in time to historic Jonesborough. That was lovely. The hotel was quiet despite being fairly full for the night on one of our stays. We plan to return and I hope I will be able to update the review with a higher rating.
