Shane Lon 30/08/2017 07:47Thanks to both of the gym staff for letting us use the facilities over the last two months. Amfora Hotel is one of the few places that has a gym in Hvar. However, the gym could do with some new equipment to assist modern functional training.

keith_s_1999on 29/08/2017 13:06We had read mixed reviews about this hotel prior to travelling, having now returned after a weeks stay, most of the negative comments were unfounded, based on our experience.
We found the staff throughout the hotel to be friendly and helpful. This included, reception, the restaurant, the pool area and the chamber maids.
The rooms, although on the small side were clean, modern and made best use the limited space. They were well equipped with fridge, air con, and hair dryer. The only thing missing was tea making facilities. We did not have a sea view which did not bother us, but if you enjoy a sea view, pay extra, the views were spectacular. The pool area was extensive and nicely designed, there was always space when we were there and that was peak season and the hotel was full.
We booked half board, with buffet breakfast and evening meal. The breakfast options were good, well maintained and fresh. The evening buffet was also good, fresh, well presented and maintained, but was more limited although offered different options each night. The restaurant was very well managed with friendly staff and we never had a problem getting a table, what ever time we ate. The only negative for us was the amount of steps throughout the hotel, there were lifts and a ramp and lift to the reception but it was not straight forward. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it for a stay. Would not recommend for wheel chair users.
The hotel was located about 10 mins walk from the town of Hvar in a quiet location.
Overall Pleasant Stay
JunieBeeon 29/08/2017 00:06This hotel is in a perfect location, a little off the beaten path for privacy from town and only a 10 min walk. Grounds and interior beautiful. We upgraded our room at the last minute which was better offering a seating area, a little more spacious. Our reservation also came with a couples massage which was such a great after 2r hours of travel time. Food..extensive breakfast buffet included. Wine pours were a joke because they want you to purchase the bottle not a glass..dont bother with hard liquor the cocktails were shy. Pool is crowded but lovely, a small kids area with a water slide. Bar and food service is offered. Beach access but be prepared, no sand only rocks. We rented a pontoon for the day which was amazing the cost was worth it especially if you can share the cost. Delicious champagne came with the booking and food service available. Drago took excellent care if us all day, he worked very hard. Gym needs a big facelift, very limited equipment, yoga classes offered a few nights a week which we did not take.
Transfers to and from ferry and to Split were flawless the hotel also offered this service.

Pool is nice, but very cold. Lots of sunbeds. Food is excellent but a bit pricey.
The pool plays music which seems to get a bit louder / more lively mid/late afternoon.
Stay for the pool
NorthbrookMomon 28/08/2017 20:35We had 2 Superior Rooms with balconies and "sea views" (because of the trees, there wasn't much sea visible).
The good:
- The pool area was just as lovely as the pictures - if you are traveling with family, the pool is hands-down the best reason to stay at this hotel. Even though it was high season, it didn't feel overly crowded and we enjoyed a relaxing day and lunch by the pool. As others have noted, we did notice some wasps around the pool area, but they didn't bother us.
- We loved the location - just far enough away to escape the restaurant/bar noise but close enough to walk into town (10 minutes on a scenic, pedestrian-only path parallel to the shore).
- We enjoyed the breakfast buffet - lots of choices and never too crowded.
- They made transporting the luggage to/from the hotel/ferry super easy. A hotel representative collected our luggage right when we got off the ferry and transported it to the hotel for us. The day of our departure, we brought our luggage to the lobby and then collected it at the ferry. Great service.
The not-so-good:
- The rooms were very small - my husband and I had to take turns navigating around the bed.
- They could use better signage to help people navigate between the hotel buildings - not all elevators service all parts of the floors so I can see why people get frustrated.
- They could also use better lighting and decor in the hallways, which had a sterile, institutional feeling.
- Our hotel room key cards kept losing their magnetism (and, no, they were not next to our credit cards or cell phones). This required 2x daily treks to the front desk, where the staff seemed to be aware of the problem and looked to be as frustrated by it as we were.
Overall, I was happy I chose Amfora, but then again there really weren't that many "luxury" hotels to choose from on the island. I understand they are building some new luxury hotels on the island. Once they do, Amfora will have some stiff competition.
