I stayed at the Amway Grand Hotel in August 2017 during a conference that I was attending and I must say that it was one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed in!!! There are two sides to the hotel a newer side and the historic side. My room was in the historic side of the hotel and it was awesome! The room was a King size room and the room itself was huge. The bathroom was small but it was no big deal. My room was cool because it was on the 11th floor and to get to it you went through a door to a hidden hall way then you found my room door. This made it so I did not hear any noise what so ever. On the first night, my air conditioner was not working. I called the front desk and they sent someone up to work on it. They were quick and efficient. They could not fix it the first night because it was late and I wanted to go to sleep but they told me to let the front desk know in the morning when I left for the day and it would be fixed before I got back they promised. Sure, enough it was fixed by lunch time and the air worked great. The pool was cool on the roof, and it was even cooler they had a tennis court and basketball court on the roof. They also had a racket ball court near the pool. The restaurants were great, but the sports bar closes early on Sundays which is not cool. The staff was beyond amazing and helpful with everything!!! The cost of parking was a little ridicules. Finally, what set the hotel apart from other hotels is when I had to extend my trip an extra day. I called the reservations number and told them I wanted to add another day and asked if the conference price was still available. They told me the conference price was closed but they called a manager and they still gave me that price for my last night. They went above and beyond for me. It saved me a hundred dollars by getting the conference rate still. The Amway Grand Hotel is amazing and I would highly highly highly recommend it to anyone staying in Grand Rapids!!!!

I loved staying at the Amway! it was very nice and clean. The staff was very friendly. I had no problem getting into my room on time. The food was wonderful and I loved the night life in the area. I would go back anytime!

Enjoyed our stay at the Amway Grand while attending an AQS quilt show. The room was comfortable, clean and well appointed. The hotel was conveniently located a very short walk to the convention center. Many restaurants inside and near the hotel.

Disappointing Experience

We selected this hotel for a family reunion and we are diamond Hilton honors. The room was small and the bathroom even smaller... hard to imagine but since we where there for one night we thought it would be fine. We got back to our room very late and at 8:30am. there was a knock on the door. I couldn't get to the door in time before housekeeping was opening it. Although we put a do not disturb tag on our door... she was checking rooms. Our initial plan was to sleep in on Sunday morning but that was ridden because we couldn't get back to sleep. At check out we inquire about the time to check out - 11:00am. When we asked why housekeeping is instructed to knock on doors, we where told that with express checkout they start cleaning rooms early. When I asked, wouldn't you know when a guest has selected express checkout? It's the hotel policy, I'm told. If a guest didn't check out through express checkout or front desk - then it is safe to assume they are still using their room. This is a horrible policy and we left sleepy and disappointed. Paid too much for this hotel.

A Hotel with Two Personalities, Classic and Modern

This is the second time we have stayed at the Amway, both times for a convention. You have your choice for type of room. You can stay in the Pantlind section which was built in the late 19th or early 20th century or you can stay in the Tower, which is the modern section. We always opt for the Classic Pantlind experience. The rooms are cozy, with all the modern amenities, bathroom is modern as well. We had a nice size closet, where we could store all of our luggage, so it was out of the way. There are lots of restaurants to choose from. We especially liked Wolfgang Puck's Kitchen Counter for breakfast. Location is great, easy to walk to Grand Rapids breweries and other local sites, such as museums. Parking is across the street, with a walkway directly into the hotel. Very nice experience.
