Unique and charming base for exploring Lucca and Pisa
Katrina Oon 20/07/2017 18:04We stayed here for two days and day-tripped to nearby Pisa. This town is quaint and touristy, packed with shops and even high-end stores. So many piazzas!
This place is probably more like an apartment but it was perfect for our family of four with a "kind of" separate room for mom and dad -- it's divided by a partial glass wall with sliding door, but still offered some privacy. Has a microwave, fridge and little dining table. The view's not great, but no views are when your near the middle of town.
Stayed here for two days and loved it. The manager wasn't readily available and not there when we checked out, but he had payed through a service and it was fine. Oh, bring your own shampoo and conditioner, and maybe a loofah as they may not have them for you.
5 perfect days
seniortravelers07on 30/05/2017 18:19My adult daughter and I stayed here for 5 nights, in the lovely apartment named "Boeheme." It was as advertised. One bedroom with a king-sized bed and a loft, also with a king-sized bed. Upgraded bathroom, equipped "kitchen" area, dining room table and chairs, etc. TV, free Wi-Fi, well located. Manuela was a very genial host and concierge. We hope to stay there again!
Fabulous B&B in the heart of Lucca
Caitlin Von 09/05/2017 21:41We had a fabulous experience here, in the perfect location! Located within the walls of Lucca, Antica Residenze del Gallo had fabulous service with Manuela. She helped us with our rental car, with recommendations on places to go, and with any needs in our room. The B&B is clean, quiet, and very spacious! Our room had a full living area attached (Madame Butterfly room) and a large bathroom. We had plenty of space to stretch out, and room to enjoy. A couple of staircases but great service for help with your luggage. Lucca is a beautiful town, definitely worth staying in the walls to get the full experience. When we return to Lucca, we will be staying here again! What an oasis, highly recommended.
Situated in the center of Lucca
Teaching-Chefon 17/10/2015 20:54We walked from the train station, chose the wrong entrance through the wall and had to drag our suitcases up numerous steps. Getting a taxi is advised. The staff were very helpful and the Residence is situated conveniently to walk the city. Our room was large but had some very steep steps to get up to it - this is not a hotel for anyone who has difficulty with steps. Breakfast in our room consisted of a box of cornflakes, a package of dry toast with jam and a box of juice each. They were out of yogurt when we were there. A fresh croissant each is available at the front desk in the morning. There is tea and instant coffee making plus a full sized refrigerator that even had an ice tray in the freezer! We could not get the Wifi to work.
Rustic charm with great service
kirkmhon 27/07/2015 21:19Staff could not have been better. They were lovely: helpful, polite, welcoming; and keen to make your stay as good as possible. Location in a building more than a thousand years old was fantastic. We were moved to Butterfly Suite due to a couple of problems with our first room. Rooms have a rustic feel that is really in keeping with Lucca as an old town. Lucca is a fantastic place.
A few things would move our review from very good to excellent: The beds are on the hard side but when a double bed is formed from two singles they should be made to stay together and a double mattress topper used. Also the pillows were very hard, flat and poor. Better pillows are a must and really not that expensive! Breakfast here is an issue. The Italians may not be big on breakfast but.... Breakfast is in your room as no separate communal rooms which is fine but... It consisted of two small boxes of cornflakes, some packaged crisp breads, carton of milk, two yogurts left in your room and then 2 croissants came each morning. To improve upon this at least a small bowl of fruit would be welcomed. Also, a sachet each of shower gel and shampoo per day (no conditioner) is a little tight fisted!
Little touches make a difference but we would still return.
