Not what we were expecting -- more like a hostel.
Jen1114on 09/06/2017 20:46Our experience was the same as "Jonty52012." We were 2 couples stranded in Venice without a hotel due to British Airways computer meltdown. Most hotels were booked, so we opted for Locanda Antica Venezia (a quick look at a couple of reviews looked promising...). One room on the top floor was quite large (348 euros per night) but had a terrible odor AND shared a communal bathroom down the corridor (this was definitely NOT in the listing!). The other room right by the reception desk (278 euros per night) did have an ensuite bathroom (closet size but clean). We all showered in the one ensuite bathroom. Overall the quality and service (breakfast included) was more like what you would expect from a hostel. Lastly, although we had prepaid online, we were told at check-out we needed to pay "in cash" for the city tax... Not an issue, EXCEPT when we reread the prepaid booking details it WAS ALREADY INCLUDED in the fees we had prepaid. And, the young woman was unable to give us a receipt for the city tax, but said she would email us one (never did receive that email -- fairly sure this is illegal). Pretty sketchy.
Definitely would not stay here again (even if the fees were reasonable).
Very poor value for money, difficult to locate.
Jonty52012on 06/06/2017 21:03Booked through an agency as needed a room for the night due to British Airways cancelling my flight home. Very expensive, so was disappointed to find the room was not en-suite. Difficult to find the place as it is situated down an alley way and the entrance place is a small locked doorway accessed by phoning a number, or ringing the door bell which I did. Had to climb up 3 flights of stairs in dim light, with other entrances to peoples apartments off. Finally got to a small reception area with a receptionist. No lift.
Breakfast was a bland continental type, self service. Glad to leave next day and find a more cheaper hotel on the Lido. Still waiting for a receipt for my stay.
Horrible
Manuel Son 03/06/2017 17:07High price, no reception, you have to handle everything with a guy on the phone. Room it is small and old. 5 floors without elevator. Safe and TV are broken.
Entrance it is not signed, there is a standard house door with a ring bell (pointless because nobody answer it) with the name.
Bed it is small and short.
Anything worse it is difficult to find.
We're a Family .... Ideal for young energetic ..clean .. off street .. but if that's good for you it's a central Veni
GMJDublinon 02/06/2017 23:42We arrived of the boat transfer and asked local police for directions they insisted on escorting us, across San Marco square and it looked like 'a kind armed escort'. They brought us down some side streets to a door even with a language barrier we all thought WHAT is this? we assumed we had booked a hotel, but no..
There was a phone number on,the door, the Police implied we should call it, we did .. a person answered and called out a number for the door to us, we put it in the key pad outside the door. Bye bye to our ultra friendly police friends. .... carry your luggage up 78 steps ... cold impersonal door welcome.
The communal area on arrival was a storage for empty bottles, as we went up the steps the building started to unfold, private apartments on the lower floor a reception desk on the 3rd floor still to see someone at it, or feel it is ever used. No friendly or even unfriendly hello.
When we reached this point we found a note with our name on it, a key for the room and another for the bathroom, then it was up another flight of stairs, to an open area with tables and a small outside space... we found our room .. it's great for 3 persons, quaint Venice like traditional and atmospheric... bathroom is external.. i.e. Just outside our room .... no shower, and bath suitable for 'small persons' kneeling to wash hair etc., in our opinion a small people facility ..... I am the tallest at 5ft7in
Breakfast is so so basic, plastic cheese etc. Diluted juice, but a lovely person to see if you have all you need on the buffet, guess safe option of tea and toast today! Yet first personal contact in this 'Hotel'
Yet did we enjoy our trip we will return to Venice ... now we know what to expect NOT to this accommodation .... however we felt as novices in Venice we were blindsided by staying in San Marco ... as a hotelier for many years health and safety on communal areas leave a lot to be desired...rooms were clean air conditioning worked and spacious ... yet no hand holding here.
We spent today in Murgano sweet place not as busy, we had looked at accommodation at Stucky but thought it was far away but it's not.
Appalling Hotel Misleading Photos Mis-soled
Michael Don 23/05/2017 22:30Hotel photographs are very misleading. Services advertised are not available. We paid €448 euros to stay at this Hotel on the 17th &18th May 2017. The Hotel advertises Air Conditioning a pre requisite for our stay. It was switched off we could only use the fan part of the unit .When we questioned this we were first led to believe they were waiting for an engineer and then further told that the Local Authority did not permit it to be switched on until the 20th May? We were advised we could check this for ourselves on the internet? The safe did not work and we had to carry our valuables with us? We were told that the previous occupants had locked it and that they did not have a code to release it? The fridge did not work? There was no Mini Bar? All these services were advertised on the Booking .Com website? We felt totally misled and naturally very upset. When we arrived we walked through an open door only to find ourselves in what was nothing more than a dungeon. In utter disbelief we phoned the number we had been given and were advised that we were in the right building and that the building was shared and that the Hotel was located on the 3rd Floor. We requested the lift and were advised there wasn't one? We requested assistance as I had recently had a Total Knee Replacement (2014) and were told that he would see if Mr Jackimo was available in the building? We waited 10 Minutes without further response and then decided to carry our heavy cases up ourselves. We had six flights of stairs to climb with rickety bannisters than in the UK would have been condemned! We eventually turned the corner on the 3rd floor totally exhausted and discovered a carpeted fligh of stairs. O arrival the reception desk was unattended but a note with a key placed upon it wishing us a pleasant stay and stating our room name. Wheneventually Mr Jackimo arrived explained we could not use the Air Conditioning and he said they were waiting for an engineer but couldn't get one until after the weekend? We complained about the safe and the fridge not working. We said that we were naturally very unhappy and said we would not expect to pay the asking price? He went from speaking English to his native tongue. We asked was he the owner? He claimed not. We tackled him again the following day having spent the night in our room which was like a sauna it was truly awful. We asked to speak to the owner? He was unhelpful and so I said we would have to call the Politzia! He then proceeded to make a phone call and we retreated to our room, After discussion which we could here taking place outside the room as we had left the door ajar he eventually knocked and gestured for us to speak to his Bookings Manager a man called Luciano ( Turns out to be his business Partner). Luciano proceeded to talk at great length not allowing me to get a word in edge ways.I calmly and patiently waited for him to finish. At any time I had the chance to speak he would talk over me.I said in order to have dialogue he would need to let me speak! He further ignored my request and so eventually I asked him to kindly shut up and allow me to speak,He now decides I have been rude and that he would not speak to me stating that I should make my complaints to Booking .Com? On arrival in the U.K. I have e-mailed him but as yet he doesn't respond. On our second night I met with five of the guests on our landing all wishing to complain only to find the reception desk unattended. We found we were all experiencing similar problems and agreed that there advertising was a total misrepresentation and misselling. Be warned ths property is well over priced and meets well below expectation. The owners are truly disrespectful and set out to mislead for there own gain.
