Something's missing here
Jonny Lon 05/07/2016 14:48The location is very remote on the edge of a national park and just a few miles from San Gimignano. The rooms are of a good size and well equipped. There is a swimming pool. The staff are friendly and welcoming but no English was spoken. So all fine. Well almost. But not quite. The dining room is a bit of a canteen and some key dishes from the printed menu were unavailable for dinner. Breakfast was okay, but no better, and the coffee was insipid. And if you stay here all day what about lunch? That's unclear. But in our room no 5 on the ground floor everyone walks past the windows on their way to the pool so no privacy. And a small person would fall off the WC reaching for the toilet paper. Hot water took its time to materialise as well. My last little gripe is that the emergency evacuation light in the wall by the door was permanently on shining bright LED lights into the room. We were advised to just cover it up!!
But overall with a few nips and tucks this place could be top notch for a tranquil setting in natural surroundings.
Excellent hosts, accomodation amid beautiful Tuscan landscape
Kevin Jon 14/08/2015 23:33Just returned from a visit to Tuscany and had the pleasure to stay at Antico Casale, just a short drive from San Gimignano and the many surrounding Tuscan villages. Set in such beautiful scenery, with lovely open spaces amongst the reserve, with huge sunflowers in the grounds, excellent pool area and an array of wildlife. The breakfast over the three days was perfect with a huge selection and different pastries each day. The home made evening meal was delicious with lasagne and ragu pasta, soooo good. The hosts were incredibly friendly and welcoming, we were very sad to leave! Thanks to the hosts, we woukd highly recommend!

Great place inside a nature reserve
Dana Non 10/11/2014 18:15The beautiful house is located inside a nature reserve - an isolated house in the woods.
The rooms where great - clean and homey.
The service was excellent - very kind and attentive, made us feel very comfortable. The staff didn't speak any English but we managed to understand each other.
The breakfast was very good and tasty. They even served fresh vegetables (!)
The road to the place is quite bumpy - about 3 kilometers of dirt road that took us 15 minutes each side - we drove slowly and it was OK.
Not to good location
patrujapon 21/09/2014 23:21On booking, it was one of the most cheapest accomodations, ant trough the pictures it looked amazing.. But at the end it was averige..
There is no view on Toscany hills, only a view to back yard.. The road to the hotel is terible but it maybe gives you a bit of adventure.. However, the staff were realy kind, and the breakfast was amazing.. If you only stay for a day or two and only use hotel for sleaping than its great, but if you would go there for more days.. i would recomend you paying 10 eur more for one night and take hotel on the top of the hill with view..
Left wondering....if only they'd...

We stayed at Antico Casale for 3 nights, from Wednesday 10th September, as part of a driving tour around Tuscany.
Whilst the place was of a good, acceptable standard and all the staff VERY helpful and attentive, I couldn't help but feel with a few more little touches it could've been amazing.
Firstly let's focus on what was good though before I start picking holes. The first impressions were good as the guy on the front desk (Pascale) was super friendly & helpful as he showed us, and another couple we were travelling with to our rooms. The rooms themselves were large and clean with plenty of bedding & towels for all. Breakfasts were tasty, varied & plentiful and service throughout amazing.
Now, the little touches that could've made it amazing.
1 - Don't put us on a room with only half a shower door. If it's broken then just fix/replace it. It was obviously an accident when it all shattered around me as I tried to move the one door across to stop the bathroom flooding, but it could've been much worse than a few cuts to my feet.
2 - Put tea & coffee facilities in each room. One room had a kettle but nothing else, another nothing at all. A simple tea or coffee would've been a right little treat.
3 - Give the tables & chairs outside a wipe every now & then. There are some beautiful tables, chairs, benches & garden sets but due to the places remote, countryside location these are covered in dew, leaves or dirt. We sat out & are in the beautiful grounds twice but had to give the area a thorough clean both times. Additionally, an outside fire pit for the colder Autumn nights would've been nice.
4 - And my final wish....please get the hot tub working & full it up. So frustrating to see it there broken & empty.
As I say, all that said we were happy with our 3 nights there, due largely to the location & the hard work of the staff, but afterwards we did feel a but underwhelmed because of the small little things.
