This Hotel maybe in trouble

Rarely is there someone at the front desk, as they are running around the hotel doing the work of at least 5 people...carrying bags to the room, serving at breakfast, recommending restaurants, answering phones and unlocking the gate for cars to enter the paved streets....the hotel also needs a serious renovation and updating....

Breathtaking

What a gem of a hotel this is. Staff are so polite and attentive. Ideally located for restaurants and the centre of Ljubljana. The room was breathtaking. Absolutely huge and the breakfast was perfect with a good mixture of buffet foods to have. Possibly one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in and I will certainly my return here when my travels bring me to this lovely country again. Highly recommend!!!

Great little hotel in historic city center

We stayed here for three nights as a family of four. Our family suite was huge - two bedrooms and a massive common area. Staff were super friendly and helpful.

Location couldn't be better, right in the heart of the historic old town. The breakfast was ample and in a nice setting with vaulted ceilings.

One special treat - we often heard singers practicing opera from the windows of the conservatory next door.

Extremely Poor Experience

My father and I were staying at this hotel and everything, except the service, was astonishingly bad given the star rating. There wasn't one big thing that made this such a bad experience, but a lot of little things that added up to make this a pretty miserable experience. The condition of the suite was completely unacceptable. The lightbulb over the mirror in the WC was shattered, with broken glass and a filament left in the socket, a window to the bathroom looking into the rest of the suite where the privacy curtain had been taken down and not replaced, the staircase railing was wobbly, and one of the beds had the footboard violently ripped off, and it wasn't fixed until several days after we originally complained, and my father was injured on one of the exposed shards of wood from the bed. Front line staff at reception did everything in their power to fix what could be fixed, but this shows a shocking lack of common sense on the part of management because that suite should not have been sold in that condition. Full stop. It was also strange how only one of the bedrooms had air conditioning, which was unpleasant given the heat wave in Ljubljana during our stay. I don't like giving reviews like this because it means I had to not only have this experience but pay for the supposed pleasure of it.

Small hotel that's big on atmosphere

The taxi dropped us at the end of the street near the hotel, because cars aren’t allowed in the old town, but we went up the wrong way and thought the driver had stranded us in the wrong part of town and the wrong hotel. I walked up the road and asked a local in a cafe for directions to Antiq and found it was down the same street from the café. In fact, where we were dropped off was much closer to the Antiq Hotel. It's an older building with lots of low doorways, corridors, nooks and heavy beams in the ceilings and I expect floors for the rooms above us. Calm and relaxing. The hotel is close to the main shopping street with shops and cafes and within walking distance to all parts of the wonderful old town in gorgeous Ljubljana. Love this city. Beds at Antiq were comfortable and the bathroom and shower were done in an old and tasteful style. Rooms are modest in size but enough for a pleasant stay. There was a range of food for breakfast and coffee made to order. We had an issue with Wi-Fi in our room because the walls are too thick--as I said, it's an old building from another century. I went out to a private sitting area on a balcony within the hotel and the Wi-Fi was fast and reliable. The wall safe was silly. It was tiny. You’d be lucky to fit your passport but you wouldn’t because the safe was so light and portable that a thief would just pick it up and carry it away with all the contents because the safe wasn’t bolted to anything. We kept our valuables in our suitcases that we locked together with our own metal strap connected to the radiator. The delightful garden that was accessible from our room within the hotel grounds provided a quiet and relaxing place to rest and, in my case, to write blogs for family and friends in Australia.
