Avoid APA Hotels

Don't stay at APA Hotels. Only foreigners on tourists visas need to show their ID. As a foreigner here on a long term visa I was still asked to show my ID which is not normally required! I've stayed at dozens, if not hundreds, of hotels across Japan and this was the only place that repeatedly insisted on me showing my ID. They are biased against foreigners. #boycottapahotels

Room was very small but apparently this is the norm in Japan?? Having said that, it was clean and had everything we needed. Staff were friendly and location couldn't be faulted with an easy walk to the train station, a large supermarket and several restaurants.

I did not hesitate to choose this over comfort hotel since I was so satisfied with Apa hiroshima that I even extended my stay there and in fact would want to to continue staying if my flight to korea is not in Saga.

As of this writing, I cannot sleep due to the howling wind on the 6th floor (cityview). There is no aircon which is ok probably at this time coz it's cold and rainy. There is also no wifi - i am using my sim/phone data which is super slow. Supposedly a non smoking floor but smells like a smoking floor. The door lock is something people use ages ago.

They have to renovate the place. I cant wait for this stay to be over and I was really looking forward to having a good night sleep but I can't coz I can feel the spring/metal from the bed and the howling wind wont stop (something you hear in horror movies).

A typical, small city hotel

The two of us was on a drive around tour in the Saga area. We stayed here for two nights. There is a small public car park just across the road, and as a hotel guest, you qualify for around Yen 500 to 600 (I don't remember precisely) for overnight parking. When we got there in the evening, it was full, so I had to park in another public carpark near JR Saga, which was around 500 meters away. It was not the end of the world, but just inconvenient. Also, the reception will give you a map which shows where the various carparks are, so no need to panic.

The hotel was not new, but not antique either, and quite clean. Staff was very helpful. We had a Semi-Double Room which was small, but ok. Bed and shower were decent. Wifi worked well. Breakfast was basic.

On one evening, we strolled to JR Saga which was a pleasant walk and found a fantastic yakitori restaurant just outside the North Exit of JR Saga. There is also a grilled beef restaurant above it. I think there are restaurants spread around both North and South Exits, so quite convenient even if you are not driving.

Overall, value for money hotel and I would not mind staying here again, but given choice, I would probably try another one if I go to Saga again.

Fair location, no flexibility

Although It is a walking distance from the train station, it is much further than most hotels available around Saga station. It was a stormy day and I am disappointed that the staff didn't allow me to just check in a little earlier so I could have a change of cloths, although there are plenty of rooms available. I won't recommend this place to anyone.
