What People are saying

Not the most obvious place to get into to!

Andycole0on 27/07/2017 10:03

Not too bad, the hotel is situated a long way up the side of the valley, 295 steps, (yes I counted them), from the Centro Commercial to our room. Or, you can use a taxi at 3.5 Euros a trip.
The rooms have been refurbished and are quite functional. Could use air conditioning though!
It has quite a big pool for the size of the establishment but watch the steps around it, I fell down one set but fortunately came down on the bag with our towels in it.
It is handily placed for the bars and restaurants in the CC.
We stayed self catering so we did not experience the food but from what we saw of the pool bar menu, it looked a bit limited.
The lack of air conditioning means that you sleep with windows open. The music from the CC stops at 3am so if your not a party animal, take ear plugs. In fact if your not a party animal, Puerto Rico may be the wrong place to be in.
If I had one real criticism it would be the lack of a proper entrance. We turned up at about midnight and only found it because someone came out of the gate. During the week we witnessed two other arriving couples call up to guests asking how to get in.
For the record, it is a gate set into the wall turned at 90 degrees to the road.

Brilliant!

After reading the reviews before we jetted off I was quite disappointed until we got there!

There is nothing wrong with Canaima unless you are too picky! The price matches what you get! The only thing what you would expect them to have is air conditioning which wasn't really a problem as you can ask for a fan if you need one.

We arrived before our check in time so we had to wait for a short while till our room was ready for us. The receptionist directed us to the pool bar where you could get food and beverages with beautiful views. We grabbed some food which was just your typical but nice. And then got our apartment key before the expected time.

We did not expect to get a such good room reflecting from the price we had paid.

Firstly, from the balcony it overlooks all of the town and you can see the beach. You get a table, umbrella and reclining chairs. You can also ask for a clothes rack to dry your wet clothes and towels.

Living room includes a sofa bed, table and English TV as well as Spanish if that's what you prefer. And is also spacious.

Kitchen includes all your needs for the time you stay probably even more. We got a juicer, coffee maker, kettle, toaster, full size fridge with a water bottle inside for our arrival which was brilliant, utensils and cooking appliances (pans ect.) . We also got a little bar area with chairs.

Bathroom included towels and hair dryer, you get a massive shower head and then a shower head for your hair which was brilliant. Also, you get big draws to store all your stuff.

The bedroom was simple, with a big wardrobe, chair and safe. You also get a telephone but we did not use that.

The location in my opinion was fine. The town was only 2 flights of stairs down which are steep but if you cant be bothered a taxi is only 2.50 which takes about 3 minutes.

Pool area is brilliant, not packed at all so there is always loungers available. But maybe it could stay open longer than 6pm under your own watch. As I understand that the lifeguard has to finish for the day at some point. However, you are not told to get out right away when the clock hits 6.

Wi-Fi works in certain parts, for example it did not work in the bedroom but we was hardly in the bedroom except to sleep and change. As well you get an expiry time which it expired night before we left.

Overall, its very good value and theirs nothing disappointing about it.

I do recommend and I hope the next people get to enjoy it as much as I did :)

great holiday

Arrived at appartments and very happy with room.
2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms
Very clean and tastefully decorated
Pool area great no need to reserve bed always available
Adults only made it great no children jumping in and out of pool
Lots of steps to climb but I managed even with a stick and got home to find no weight put on
Taxis are fairly priced
Had a real good holiday and would return

To terrible we left the hotel after 2 days!

First of all! Everything is DOWN hill from the hotel! We are talking hiking mode in flip flops! And all the food places around, is so tourist-minded, they probably have the menu in any EU language!

Pre-Paid for 7 days, before we left home as a package deal. We loved the "adults only" sound of it. Being in the pool late at night, with the bar open. Yeah... no! Pool closes at 18. (!?!?)

Anyway, came down after 21 hours of travel, to a dirty hotel room, which wasn't cleaned after the former guests. Got the stink-eye by the cleaning lady when we complained and got a new room.

New room, yay! ...no! First thing that hit us, was a stench of a old, sour smell of wet cleaning rag. Smell didn't go away after airing!

The apartment was "fine", nothing fancy, but we didn't pay for fancy either. There was a broken chair laying around inside the apartment, and the balcony did not have the chairs as promised, so we ended up not being able to use that, at all.

First night, we where so tired, we just needed to sleep. Could probably sleep, standing up. Unfortunately, the beds where so rock hard, we had to move into to the pull out sofa.

Second night, we barely slept. My husband ended up moving back and forth, from bed to pull out, to the floor. And gave up after 4 hours of sleep.

After the second night, we got sunburned after a trip on the ocean, and comfort became a factor! Came back to the hotel, and the people living in the room under us, was smoking again, and cooking. Which came directly into our place!

We checked out of the hotel and bought another room, in Las Palmas for the remaining vacation. Saved our trip! Had a wonderful time. Its like a whole other country. Barely any tourism or people talking to you in your own language at the restaurants.

TL;DL Don't go if you want comfort. You get what you pay for!

Very good value!!!!!

So, I have read a lot of these reviews and was sceptical about going here but honestly there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG with Canaima. Firstly it is ridiculously cheap and half the photos on here are outdated so it is all lovely and modern now!!!! When we arrived the receptionist was lovely to us, a smile goes a long way! We had a little problem as we booked a double bed but got two singles, however, as the rooms have NO AIR CONDITIONING we decided being in separate beds was probably fine! There are actually no fans in the room, you have to go to the reception and ask for one and she brought it straight away so it was fine. The rooms themselves are great, we loved the blacony and the nice view. We thought the sofa was lovely and the tv worked well. The kitchen is even better as it has everything you need, the fridge is huge and can store loads. The hob works great too. Additionally, the bathroom was a little tattered but for the price we really didn't care. The wardrobe is also very very spacious. They were also cleaned pretty much every day, we could barely get the cleaners to leave which is really good. There is a safe for 15 euro deposit which you get back!!!

The pool area we loved, very modern too and plenty of sunbeds for everyone! Drinks at the bar were a little expensive compared to the rest of puerto rico, however fine compared to England! We just were self catered so never had the food there. It seemed that it was mostly couples at the hotel.

There is free parking, but on the weekends it gets VERY BUSY and we found no spaces a few times which was annoying so had to park up the hill...

DISTANCE TO TOWN: This is something I want to stress, for anyone here saying the walk to town is too far, I honestly have no clue what they are on about, the walk to town takes about 7 mins and you only have to go down 2 flights of stairs. They aren't that steep and if you don't want to you can just walk on the roads? I really don't see the need for a cab from town, it is SO CLOSE. Very close to supermarkets and mcdonalds and beach.

WIFI: Honestly, the wifi is VERY POOR and if they changed this it would nearly be perfect. It doesn't work in the rooms barely, but does at the pool area.

Really would recommend this place for a cheapish holiday, it is much nicer than some of the huge resort hotels.
