What People are saying

A pleasant stay in a nice location

chat2marcus on 11/10/2017 13:10

This hotel ticks a lot of boxes for a perfectly pleasant stay.

The rooms have been refurbished to a nice standard with contemporary decoration and are cleaned well every day. We were not so impressed with the fact that ours opened onto the roof terrace where people sunbathed and were staring right into your room, no privacy. In the evening the rooms next door also used it as a bit of a party venue whilst their kids were asleep inside.

Food - We only ate at at the hotel twice (once for a pool side lunch and once for breakfast) as there were plenty of places to walk out to in an evening and it was easy to make breakfast in the room but the prices were reasonable and food OK.

The pool is quite well maintained and gets busy. Our children (6 and 8) loved it but it’s not much use if you want to do lengths.

The hotel staff were very friendly and happy to help. I think it’s a bit mean in 2017 to charge a day rate for the safe though!

There is entertainment in an evening but it was a bit lame and so we tended not to bother.

Location - the total is at the other end of town from the marina but that suited us. The centre of Cala Ratjada is VERY German, there are a couple of more traditional restaurants around the hotel (Sa Cova just around the corner is wonderful) and it is a short stroll to by far the best beach. The one down side to the location was no secure parking, you have to find street parking and that can be a challenge in peak season.

A Comprehensive Review of our Wonderful Stay!

Spent a week at THB Guya Playa Class in early September and it was a fantastic stay. What I liked about this hotel is that it didn't feel upmarket/snobby but had all the service you would expect for a 5-star hotel. It had a very warm and welcoming feel to it and you felt relaxed throughout your stay.

The service at this hotel is exceptional. There was a fault on our booking stating less people on the booking. I contacted the hotel and they agreed to make the amendments without any charges. This just show how service-minded these people are. The receptionists went out of their way to make sure you have a comfortable stay. This is not a place where you arrive and are bombarded with tons of extra charges. They make sure your holiday starts at arrival. (note that the only surprising extra was the safety box which was 3 euros a day).

The rooms are magnificent - we luckily had Seaview, the beds are comfortable (not to soft, not too stiff), it's modern, spacious, has all the kitchen utilities you need for your short stay and on top of that the cleaning ladies were wonderful - not intrusive but ensuring your rooms are cleaned, swept as much as you require.

Then there's the food that was beyond perfect - every night a different theme and lots of choices, fresh food cooked by wonderful Eve right in front of your eyes and dessert table with tons of variety. As a great gesture you received a nice welcoming from the hotel manager with an alcoholic drink. The one thing that might have been surprising is that water/soft drinks are not included in Half Board. I know this came as a slight surprise to some guests, but I'd suspect they are probably following normal HB procedures.

Then there's the pool area. Plenty of sun-beds, clean area, well maintained water that doesn't smell of chlorine, wonderful sea view, lots of umbrellas and a children's playground next to the children's pool and a downstairs play area for children. There's also an indoor pool (the Spa). Wonderful to have when it's raining or during peak time when the sun gets too hot. I also liked that the Spa facility was free of charge. This was one of the main reasons we booked this hotel.

On top of all of this, the location was outstanding. It's in a quiet side street, with mountain and sea view yet close to the most amazing beach (10 mins walk) and corner of the main street for restaurants, shopping etc. Having explored some part of Mallorca, I truly believed our hotel was in the best location.

For those wondering about booking transfer: First of all the hotel can be mixed up with another hotel named THB Playa (I made that mistake). So when booking transfer or putting address in Sat Nav make sure you have the right address. The hotel can be found by two different address both of these are correct: Carrer Secret, S/n and Calle de la Cala S/n. After reading horror stories of car rental in Mallorca, we decided to go with the shuttle bus. We booked it through the hotels direct link (about 11 euros /person) - it's Thomas Cook that handles the bookings. Now please note that the journey can vary (mine was 2,5hrs, whilst my parents journey was 1,5hr). On the return, we decided to book a taxi through the hotel for 100 euros. Glad we did that as there was lots of traffic on the return journey.

There really isn't anything I can fault. The one thing maybe I would have wished is for the gym to have opened earlier in the morning so I could have gone exercise before my daughter woke up (the gym opens at 10am). However, as the receptionists advised, I ended up doing the morning jog to the beach - which was lovely.

We truly enjoyed our stayed and want to thank THB Guya Playa for all of their hard work!

Lovely family hotel

We stayed for a week in August 2017 in a 1 bed apartment. The apartment was nice, clean and we had a sea view. Pools were great, busy but it overcrowded by mid morning. Food good and varied, buffet style with a grill chef cooking things to order at breakfast and dinner. Staff very friendly.

Treated As Royal

this hotel is the perfect hotel and if I come again I would definitely stay here the manager was soo great the view from the hotel you can see the mountains and sea view, but spa included was soo luxurious. EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT / ELEGANT AND OFFICIANT.

Great hotel, friendly staff, clean and modern rooms

Pros:
It's a clean, modern style hotel with everything you need and is located well. Access to various beaches, great swimming spots, shops and restaurants are only a stone's throw away. The staff are nice and friendly and the rooms are light, clean, modern and spacious.

We stayed in a room with a mini fridge, a kitchen, cutlery and cups/plates, which was really handy for those small meals or drinks you may want to have in the room. We chose not to include food during our stay, as we wanted to explore different restaurants and cafes nearby. We also went to the nearby supermarket to buy food and breakfast, fruit and drinks. PS you have to buy water to drink as the water isn't clean enough on the island.

The pool is well kept and very clean. There are lots of sun loungers and sun umbrellas available. Staff in the pool area are also super friendly and you can order drinks and food from the restaurant during the day (we recommend the croquettes and grilled vegetables!).

The air con system in the room was amazing! Very quiet and adjustable. It basically stops pumping cool air out once it detects that the chosen temperature has been reached, and starts again once it gets warmer again. Very easy to sleep with.

Beds were very comfortable - not too hard not too soft. Linen was very nice and clean and seemed new. The cleaning staff were also lovely and very service minded.

Cons:
If you're looking for a quiet getaway, this may not be the place for you. It does seem very popular for guests with kids and the pool area can be very loud and overrun at times.

There seems to be hotel entertainment every night, mainly for the kids (on a stage near the reception) which goes for a couple of hours after 8pm. Even though our room was on the other side of the hotel, at the far end near the ocean, we could hear this every night (if we were in our room or wanted to sit on our balcony and enjoy a drink at that time). It's way too loud and seems to compete with the other hotels' entertainment. We weren't a fan of this because it was just too much (you can only listen to 'The Wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round' so many times...) BUT were thankful that our room was further away from the restaurant/reception area than other nearby rooms. Perhaps be aware of this when booking.

The safe provided in the room is recommended but isn't free. We heard other guests wondering about how to use it, so, I would recommend that the hotel communicates that better to guests. I think it should be free to use.

There is free wifi, but it is super slow and almost doesn't work at times.

All in all, our stay was great and we had a wonderful holiday! We recommend getting a room that faces the poolside/ocean and furthest away. You also get gorgeous sunsets over the mountains if your room is facing the poolside!
