What People are saying

Not so good

Barbora Pon 27/04/2017 14:55

First of all me and my friends wanted to stay in private apartment without sharing anything with anyone. It didn't happen! Had to share bathroom and kitchen and our little place basically looked like smaller hostel. Communication with the host was super hard. You have to listen to him and he's not really willing to do anything for you. Also you have to pay for Wifi and washing machine. What I didn't like the most was the fact that they took 80% of the payment from my card 7 days before the arrival and then they charged me the full price plus €100 on op of that as a deposit. So I ended up paying almost €1000!!! The host wasn't even trying to explain it to me properly and he let me go back to London and deal with it on my own. Thankfully I got the money back but it shouldn't happen and it doesn't really happen anywhere else and I do travel a lot.
And secondly the rooms were actually clean and beds were comfortable. Kitchen was also always nice and clean and the whole place is in very good location with easy transfer everywhere, so we enjoyed that a lot.

Don't book this venue

The owner of the place, Mr. Karsten Schulz just didn’t want to help me getting the key on the day of arrival in the evening and the next day early in the morning. Very bad service. Next to that, this man is very very rude, he just doesn't want to help travellers. I had to pay and I got nothing, that's the mentality of this owner. Terrible, don't go there.

Day light robbery

I booked online for 5 nights and used the non refundable rate. However having noticed that they had a check in policy of 2-6p.m . on the bookings.com special request at booking, i made it clear that my flight arrived at 7p.m. and the earliest i would be at the apartment would be 9p.m. I got a response a couple of days later to say, that was impossible and could I get someone in Berlin to collect the keys on my behalf.{ Please note the Apartment had taken FULL payment out of my account for the 5 night stay} After a great many calls and emails to various business people in Germany asking for their help, I found someone to collect the keys.
HOWEVER when she went{ this is after sending them copies of my passport and asking that they confirm receipt...I get an email on arrival Berlin, probably sent after I had boarded my flight San francisco to Amsterdam....saying passport copy not clear} she was asked to pay a deposit of 200euro before they would give her the keys...she did not.
I arrive at 9p.m. to no accommodation and noone picking up. I stayed the night at the airport hotel at great expense. I had explained that the next day, I would pick up the keys by 8a.m. or after 6p.m., as was in meetings from 9 to 5 p.m.
No response, eventually I got an email saying ...keys are only available from 2-.
I was in Berlin for Business and explained that I could not find my way in the middle of the day to Apartment schutlz to collect the keys as my appointments could not be rescheduled.
To cut a long story short, Apartment Schutz, refused to meet with me either before 9 or later and they refused to refund my money for the 5 nights stay, that I never stayed.

I am writing this review to WARN others of this unethical place and frankly an surprised that bookings.com has them on their site.

recommended but...

Clean apartment, new furniture, but very small bathroom. Good location. Unfortunately, there is no wi fi in the rooms but only in the common area on the ground floor. The street is rather dark in the evening.

Worth it

Stayed here for a week whilst sightseeing in Berlin. The ground floor Apartment consists of 4 individually lockable bedrooms, a kitchen, a shower and toilet and another toilet. Everything was clean and serviceable. The shower, toilets and kitchen (inc bins) were well cleaned every day by the owners. The bedrooms were simple and airy, three double bedded and one with 3 singles; they were comfortable, linen and towels were provided. You rent the rooms you require and share the common areas with others who rent the remaining room/s. This happened with us and wasn't a problem. The owners are Eco and cost conscious thus there are separate bins for different waste, timer on the hall lights and a push button shower which gives 20 secs of hot water before pressing again as many times as you want ..... this works well and hot water was plentiful ( could save a fortune at home ).The owners ask that you respect the need for a lower noise level at night and and all seem to observe this in the apartment block. Other reviews have mentioned the graffiti outside and are correct in saying it shouldn't put you off ; graffiti is endemic in Berlin regardless of area or community. Downsides - the kitchen is too small to use as a lounge so if a number of you want to chill together you either have to use a bedroom, the small common access courtyard out back or go out.... not a big problem, oh, and if you want to lie in be aware 3 of the rooms are adjacent to the street and occasionally it can get noisy after 8:00 am. It is a great place as a base for exploring Berlin, five minutes from trains, underground, trams and buses. There's supermarkets, restaurants, bars and late shops all within 5 minutes walk. Owners are helpful and efficient. For the room price I can't see a better way to stay in Berlin - recommended.
