Another nice dive

Steve Mon 14/07/2017 21:27

On Saturday July 8th my friend and I did a dive on Molasses Reef. I have dove there with you before but always something new and exciting to see! The weather, seas & vizability were in my opinion perfect. As always the staff, crew were friendly, professional and fun. Thanks to Shana(sorry if I spelled it wrong)for being a great guide. We remembered her from last year and glad she is still with Raibow Reef. I highly recommend Rainbow Reef to anyone looking for a fun, professional & safe dive adventure.
We will be back for sureπŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸŒž!!

Best trip of my life

The staff of rainbow reef dive center had made the experience one to trump all other experiences I have ever had. Our dive instructor "Dougie Long" was by far the most respectable, fun loving, knowledgeable, and all around fantastic person to be leading any sort of dive or course. I highly recommend rainbow reef dive center for any desired scuba qualifications. Rainbow reef and it's professional staff had led four amazing dives, through a natural reef beyond anything I could have ever imagined. They took all apprehensions of being underwater away and filled them with amazement and longing for more. Again I highly recommend Dougie and rainbow for any desired scuba qualifications or certifications. All facilities and boats and properties were kept in such good condition and good order it was outstanding service in all aspects. I'm awestruck at my experience at rainbow reef. I can't wait for more, and more, and more.

Best Dive Operation in Key Largo

Amy Son 13/07/2017 19:02

Did our annual trip to Key Largo in June and once again dove with Rainbow Reef. One thing a dive center cannot do is predict or control the weather and we did not have great weather. It was WINDY! We battled at least 4 ft seas everyday. First day 90% of the boat got seasick and the crew was swift in action helping everyone as much as they could. What impressed me most was not just how skilled they were, but also how compassionate and kind they were. As we all know, when diving in rough conditions, the most dangerous part is the ladder getting back on the boat. The captain and dive guides all made sure to cover the safest procedure thoroughly and a dive guide stayed in the water fully geared up to help. The design of the dive ladder on the Rainbow Reef's boats is by far one of the best for getting back on the boat and made a difficult situation a little easier. All in all, I just cannot say enough about the crew and their commitment to safety.

Again, with wind comes some not great diving conditions. We were able to dive for 4 days and each time the boat Captain made sure to bring us to the place that would have the least current and best visibility. The dive guides are very knowledgeable of the reefs and look for critters and creatures to point out for you. We saw sharks, spotted eagle rays, sting rays, beautiful fish life, we were never disappointed at all.

I have zero reservations about recommending Rainbow Reef dive center to anyone looking to dive in Key Largo. They truly are the best diver operation around!

Excellent Boat for New Divers

My wife and I charted a private trip through Rainbow Reef with us and my father in law and brother. My wife and I are advanced, but the others in our party are new to diving. Rainbow Reef made sure their first boat dive was fantastic. They took us out to the Benwood and Eagle Ray Alley on Molasses Reef. The dive spots were excellent. The captain and dive guide were top notch! I would highly recommend Rainbow Reef to anyone visiting.

Enthusiastic and well-trained staff

This was our second visit to Rainbow Reef. The first was a few years ago and the company has grown a good deal since then. We enjoyed our week -- saw sharks, turtles, fabulous spotted eagle rays, eels and reef fish. We found the staff to be very helpful, well-trained and safety-conscious. A big thanks to one and all - too many to mention by name. H is a many-decade diver and has been an instructor. I am AOW certified with 80+ dives behind me. We dove multiple trips over several days. Overall, we thought the operation was very good. We were there at a time close to and including the July 4th holiday so they were especially busy. Our take on the pros and cons is as follows:

Pros -- staff members were knowledgeable, safety-focused, and affable. The staffing on the boats is high (important given the large numbers of divers) so the dive groups had reasonable numbers of divers (single digits). Boats are well-maintained and large. Rental gear looked to be in good shape (we had our own). Tanks were in good shape with only a few problems here and there with bad O-rings, etc and these were easily fixed. Staff are happy to help set-up and/or switch over gear and also happy to leave it to you if you prefer. Requests for switching boats/dive locations were accommodated and check-in was easy prior to each of the dive trips. Cookies (not chocolate chip as indicated on the website) and water are plentiful between dives. Three medium-sized rinse tanks are available for use after diving.

Cons -- the business model for RR appears to be to fill all available seats and during busy times, this results in very tight quarters on the boats. If you want to dive last minute, this is a good thing because they may be able to get you in the water. However, if you want dive your air and not get "up close and personal" with the person beside you, it will not likely be ideal. Being there on a busy week, we experienced large numbers of divers on the boats most days - both mornings and afternoons.

Bottom line, we would recommend Rainbow Reef as a very safe and pleasant dive operation but note that weekends or holidays are likely going to crowded and the shallow dives will be about 45 mins in length with short surface intervals as noted by other reviewers. This is not necessarily a bad thing but may not be everyone's cup of ocean. Happy diving!
