update on 2 aug 16 review

kim con 17/02/2017 00:25

My 2 Aug 16 review tells of the bad experience we had at this place. This update contains valuable information for people visiting France from overseas. In 2016 new consumer protection law was introduced in France, which provides a free english-speaking mediation service. After 6 months of trying to obtain a refund from AppartCity, including overseas phone calls via a translator, to both the hotel and their head office in Montpelier, I was getting stone-walled by them. So I emailed the mediation service CMAP ( Centre de médiation et d'arbitrage) and explained the situation. Within a few days they phoned me (in Australia), asked a few questions, made some suggestions, then contacted Appartcity head office. Within a week we had the basis for a satisfactory compromise settlement and within a month i received the settlement. The service was efficient, friendly and free, but the best part for me was that I did not have to deal direct with the hotel - every email and phone call with them was making me very angry at their insensitivity.
The mediator is impartial, but they seem to have a lot of influence - every time they contacted AppartCity there was an immediate positive response.
I recommend anyone having consumer problems in France to try this mediation service once they have exhausted the usual options.

Worse than backpacker accommodation

kim con 02/08/2016 04:44

This is a dirty, smelly apartment block that is not as described on their website, with an uncommunicative senior management.
I booked a non-smoking double studio room for 6 nights, paid in advance. We arrived and found the room (403) was not remotely as described. It had twin beds not a double, kitchen equipment was missing, all the surfaces were dirty, and the room smelled badly of smoke. We told reception, where the staff were friendly and tried to help but they could not make the room good. They changed the bed, replaced the missing equipment and tried to clean the surfaces. However, everyone agreed that it was not possible to remove the smell of smoke. The walls and floors were still heavily marked and greasy. It would require industrial heavy cleaning or renovation to make the room acceptable. We could not sleep in a room with this bad smell so we advised reception and left the same day. I immediately wrote (in French and English) asking for a refund, but despite numerous further requests for a response have had no answer. I am now escalating the complaint with various authorities (tourist office, hotel organisations, company CEO etc.).
Other factors to consider with this accommodation include – long walk to city centre (about 30-40 mins); few facilities in the vicinity (2 restaurants, 1 pizza takeaway and 1 shop); very poor security (we walked straight into their breakfast room where guests’ bags were stored, when the reception was closed and no staff were around); no lift (3 floors); no response to emailed request for early (1pm) check-in; and the room we were in suffered traffic noise. On the plus side, it does have wifi and a laundry, and the office staff were friendly. If it gets a renovation then it may be worth considering as low grade accommodation, but until then I suggest keep well clear of it.

Basic but good

Paul Hon 04/04/2014 23:23

It is what it is, an appartment away from home, it is basic, but you have a little home from home. (you will need to clean your own mess). It has a full but small kitchen, a good size bathroom and the bed might not be much to look at but I had some great nights sleep in it.
TV, Wifi and a place to keep your drink cold. After a long day it is a home from home, and it is only 100 meters from the Tram line.

What you see is what you get . Excelent value for money

As a consultant, it is very important, to focus on basic things.
This hotel is good because you get what you expect from a flat hotel.
My room was spacious enough to rest and to cook a quick dinner, I had the internet and digital TV.
The breakfast was very good and served very early in the morning.
The staff, is always very nice and helpful.
When you have all those elements together, and you also have a very affordable price.
You can only realistically make a good review.

New hotel with reservation problems

charliednalon 27/05/2011 10:22

Hotel from 2010, new, modern style, nice rooms. friendly staff. Its an apparthotel so u are supposed to empty your dust bin yourself, especially if you stay longer. The hotel i situated a bit out of the center, close to a street with lots of shops and restaureants and buses nearby. Internet connection is not free but not expensive.
Very nice staff, but attention: eception is closed on sunday, keys are in a deposit. I booked on a general booking site saturday evening on a booking site (not the one of the hotel) and had some little problems to get a key because i had booked after opeing times of the reception. But they found a solution and i got my room.
