This place does not look like temple actually, perhaps because it was not preserved that well. However, this is a large beautiful area, where you can go for a nice stroll and enjoy the sense of ancient town. Even without reading the guide book you can tell that this place played a significant role in the town.

The temple of Jupiter - My favourite part of Pompeii by far! A stunning example of how the Roman Town would have looked and a significant feature within Pompeii. If you only take one photograph whilst visiting then let this be the one, with the backdrop of Mount Vesuvius it really is a stunning iconic image.

If you have a guide book you can see an artists representation of how the temple and the forum sat together... Its impressive and oddly almost in the same place as the temple of Saturn in the roman forum in Rome. Making me believe that maybe Forums have a basic plan they all adopt!!

We had a great day to visit Pompeii so it made for great viewing and a great day to be there. Just one of those things you have to visit to understand it

The Temple of Jupiter, built in the 2nd century BC, is dedicated to the highest divinity of ancient times. The temple 'closed off' the fourth side of the square where there were no colonnades.
