Amazing house
Laurence Lon 03/08/2017 21:58An amazing house backed up with excellent service. I arrived late and was made to feel very welcome.
The house has been restored to its former glory and is very impressive.
The food was really nice and was also served early just for me.
Thank you
Fantastic and THE best breakfast
James7669on 18/07/2017 02:12As a seasoned traveller to hotels for both work and leisure I feel qualified to say that this place was fantastic on so many levels.
First of all it is specifically a vintage decorated and styled place so don't expect modern decor as that isn't what this is about.
What it IS about is a lovely family who love their business and whom I wished most hotel owners were like.
We were greeted by the owners who bent over backwards to ensure my expectant wife was tended to for any need. They moved us from a 2nd floor into a 1st floor room for her benefit, and genuinely showed care for us. We were offered a beautiful cup of tea and home baked cake upon arrival as well.
The room was spotlessly clean and bed comfortable.
In the morning the breakfast was cooked to order and I can categorically say it was the best cooked breakfast I have eaten while travelling in hotels or cafe's in the UK, and that is a big statement to make. And yet in the UK it seems the biggest single failing of most hotels and cafe's is a consistent quality traditional cooked breakfast.
What made it stand out? Well the bacon was exceptional, well cured and not over salty whilst cooked perfectly so it was crispy but not overdone. No watery boiled pale tough bacon sat in hot plates here!
The sausages were locally produced and again good quality rather than mushy/smooth catering ones or sinewy/grissly types. They's also been cooked perfectly, and not destroyed as many places do by deep frying them or leaving them sat then reheating them.
The eggs had perky bright yolks and had been fried properly whereby the yolk is basted in the oil so it is cooked on the outside while remaining runny inside with no uncooked 'goo' on it.
Freshly cooked mushrooms! They were gorgeous! Tomatoes too! The toast was decent granary bread not cheap white or brown rubbish.
And finally it was all the other basics from proper salt and pepper grinders to quality teabags, teapots that pour properly, butter that isn't half frozen and other clearly happy guests.
I know I have focused on breakfast and there was so much more but at least you can see why!
We'll be back and we wish this place and it's lovely owners every success!
Lovey house, lovely family
Hygertarfaon 16/07/2017 16:02Roger and Kate came out to meet us. We were offered lemon drizzle cake which Kate had made with tea and coffee. The library has a small pool/snooker table and is full of wonderful books as well as chess, mancala, backgammon... we were shown to our room which was beautiful. The bed was very comfortable and it was spotless. Everything in the room just gave you a sense of stepping back in time but not in an old, drab way. The bath was a delight. There are shower attachments but we were away relaxing so bath it was! All you need is supplied if you forget anything like soap etc. The hospitality tray is all fair trade and organic. Perfect!
The next day breakfast was perfect. Nothing is too much trouble. Everything is fresh and local where possible. On our return we were treated to Kate's brownies. Oh my goodness! My partner had gone upstairs so I tried to snaffle his! Beautifully baked, light and fluffy. However, Kate would not allow me to be mean and gave me another to take upstairs.
When we left I felt that the whole family (including Master Daniel. He was a star!) cared, not just because you were spending money, but genuinely cared about all of their guests. I am a hotel manager and it's always nice to be on the other side of the counter. I will definitely stay here again as the service I received was a rare find. Thank you both for a beautiful weekend!
Well impressed
Heather Jon 05/07/2017 16:18A lovely place to stay. The family who run it are extremely friendly and so helpful, nothing is to much trouble for them. The bedrooms are very spacious
And the bathrooms are amazing with roll top bath. Spotlessly clean and what a breakfast. Would definetly recommend and return.
Spot on
gillian hon 24/06/2017 21:34We received a lovely welcome, entered a beautiful house, were given a cup of tea and fresh lemon drizzle cake in the charming lounge. The tone was set and continued to create a delightful stay. We will be back.
