What People are saying

Nice room, old hotel, no parking

crimson14on 08/08/2017 15:04

We stayed only one night. This hotel is outside of city center near the University. A lovely park just a block away. The parking is a nightmare. You will pay for street parking unless you will arrive after 6pm and leave before 8am and then it is street parking. There are many restaurant choices but no shopping really. The room was nice and clean but the view across the street was straight into apartment windows, so you must close the shades at all times. This i did not like being able to look outside. The room was right on a main street but we did not find it to be noisy. The breakfast is in the basement and was very nice. Again it was a little claustrophobic for my taste. The front desk was very nice and helpful. I would not stay here again because of the location and lack of privacy in the room.
This hotel is an easy 45 minute drive to the Edinburgh airport.

Modern with Scottish traditional features

Very pleasant hotel, walking distance from City Centre and close enough to walk to Byres Road & Ashton Lane, Glasgow’s West End (not expensive if need to get a taxi to most places). Beautiful room with immaculate bathroom with decent toiletries (I am picky about toiletries). Hotel is very clean. Staff well presented. Night access not a problem, secure via night porter (secure) – we were at Glasgow Green for TRSMT so not an early night. Very good first impression – a bit off putting when receptionist mentioned booked through agent (until I realised how much of a % commission the agents / booking companies get until seen on hotel inspector TV programme) will book direct next time. Efficient check in and check out. Loved the tartan themes of the rooms, with stylish interior with sensor light in bathroom mirror. Thinking of taking the in-laws for dinner at Scottish restaurant part of the hotel

Courteous, friendly, helpful staff. Breakfast good variety and tasty. Rooms clean. As a couple we were given an extremely spacious family room in the hotel. A cosy hotel full of character. 20 minutes walk to centre. Would recommend this hotel.

Terrible!

I stayed here for one night. I called the hotel to say we would arrive around 11pm and request an early breakfast, the lady I spoke to couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating, that was the beginning and end of my positive experience with the hotel. When we arrived we were greeted by an abrupt, verging on rude man. He said it wasn't possible to have an early breakfast, only when I pushed the issue and said I had called ahead to request this did he reluctantly agree. We weren't aware we were staying across the road at the guesthouse and he provided no guidance as where to go, saying only 'your room is across the road'. With regards to the room, the tartan covers on the top of the bed were badly stained.
The hotel is very very dated and the photos on the website are very very misleading. I am very surprised that this hotel has received so many positive reviews.
I paid £75 for the room, daylight robbery is a gross understatement.

Unexpected Pleasure

I just happened upon the Argyll Hotel because I forgot to book a hotel room for the night we stayed there. The location is great. I was able to walk around the neighborhood and see some very nice areas and interesting sites. Our breakfast across the street at the sister hotel was very good. The room where we stayed was comfortable and very nice at a very reasonable price. I especially appreciated the button you pushed for a taxi which seemed to show up within minutes. I would gladly stay here again.
