What People are saying

Enjoyable stay

Miss Janet don 30/08/2017 10:08

I had booked before reading any reviews, so was a big bit apprehensive, but was very pleasantly surprised.
On arriving early, receptionist Lara was very friendly, bubbly, pleasant and helpful, our room was not ready but she moved us to another room so we could get sorted before heading out to explore. She gave us a map and updated us on how to get about Bristol, and best places to visit.
A Very pleasant first impression.
The Hotel is a very old historic building and has plenty character. And does have a lift, as previous review said it did not.
The room, carpet, bedding and bathroom was clean, what else do you need.
Breakfast was not the best I've had, but was not the worse either. I did not starve.
Had a couple of light meals and drinks in the bar, staff were very friendly and helpful and food was good.
Only disappointment was I did not meet any ghosts, but I would defiantly go back to look.

How is this place open!

Stayed few years back and while some issues we were told that a refurb was starting soon

We booked (very cheaply) and went back all new staff none of whom cared one iota of what they did or how they treated people

Saw none of old staff and it's clear to see why it's dirty its old it smells and the breakfasts although cheap was vile how can scrambled egg taste so bad!

Avoid!

This hotel doesn't earn even 1 Star. The rooms are "Gungy" an absolut disgrace. Clean is not the description to be used here. Absolutely not EAR for the needs of the visitors.
Although the evening meal for MEAT Eaters was eddible, the Vegetarians were not catered for on the same level. Their meal was a disgrace to the kitchen.
The room of some of my passengers were so bad, because of stains on the bed linen.
Cobwebs, Limescale, no hot water in the shower,
Breakfast - Time we needed was 7.00 - Time we could take it 7.30. through this we lost a good hour on our further itenerary. Not even the scramble eggs were made to taste good, and that comes out of a packet of ready made ingredients. all they need to do is ad water or milk to it, and maybe a little salt and pepper. The kitchen didn't have even fresh eggs, fried, poached or boiled. The only thing was a selection of cheeses, which my passengers made a run on.
All in all definately not a hotel to recommend!!!!!!

Don't stay here!

The room wasn't very clean, the bed was uncomfortable, the room smelled like rotten sewage, the lady on reception was very rude, the toilet didn't flush properly. My brother stayed in another room and there was a bright red stain on the carpet, it looked like blood. I couldn't understand why you wanted a £20 deposit when the room had already been paid for, we were told it was to make sure the room was ok but no one check it when we checked out?

Never again

After waiting all day for the manager to contact me regarding a brand new pair of jeans that have gone missing after our stay it just goes to show they they don't care. I phone the the hotel to complain and report that I was missing the jeans once I'd noticed when we got home and was told the manager would phone me today when they were back. I would of thought it would of been one of the first things on her to-do list. We stayed for two nights in a rather grubby room with an awful smell in the bathroom. The rooms were nice and big with a comfy big bed and plenty of storage but that's all that was good. The carpets had marks all over them and the ceiling in both bedroom and bathroom had water marks on, the bath was a whirlpool but didn't work. The windows were filthy too. In the corridors which were dark, the fire extinguishers were thick with dust and skirting's were dusty. There was no lift so we had to carry a lot of luggage as we have a baby, up quite a few set of stairs. My mother in law had a separate room which had a really awful smell coming from bathroom and the windows wouldn't open, even asked housekeeping who said they would sort but didn't. Breakfast was basic but for £5 it was fine. Choice of cereal but not branded cereal, porridge in a big pot only one of the mornings, cooked breakfast was sausage, bacon, beans and scrambled eggs. Toast, croissants and a small bit of cheese was laid out, orange/apple juice and a good selection of teas or coffee. I can safely say we won't be staying again and I'm £40 out of pocket.
