A good hostel with awful service
vekannaon 04/11/2014 20:57We stayed there at the beginning of November so it's high season in St.Petersburg because of the holidays. We booked 2 separate rooms for each couple a month before our trip and we're really surprised when it turned out that only one room left for 4 of us. And no one wanted to help us to solve the problem, so we had to live all together in the room for 2 people as it was impossible to find any rooms in the city. It spoiled our trip! In whole, the hostel is well-furnished and rather pleasant. But I won't stay there again as I'm not sure that I'll get exactly what l've ordered.
Cute hostel, but no fun
Veronique1985on 02/12/2013 00:50We were highly anticipating our stay at Arooms having picked it for 2 reasons: awesome looking design and the idea to meet other travelers and have fun for the last leg of our Russian adventures.
On one end, we were not disappointed as this hostel is very well designed with funky wallpaper and hip common areas, our room (the rock n roll queen) was beautiful and well kept.
As for the rest I will sum it up by saying we have seen better. First night, they had lost our reservation but offered to put us in another one of their hotel across the street. As per the Star rating and the pictures they showed us, it was similar (no fun wallpaper though) so we accepted to avoid the dorms! That other hotel was not clean, the shared bath smelled like urine and their was mosquitos splattered on the walls everywhere in the tiny room. Not off to a great start.
Back to Arooms, we were upgraded for the disagreement, but for one night only, we apparently had to move room again...
The staff only speaks Russian so it is very hard to be understood (even with common miming, pointing, and lastly the voice translator app) but the owners are very helpful and speak great English.
As for the crowd, when we were there, there was only Russian speaking guests around, and nobody barely spoke to one another...
All in all, it is very good for friends or a couple traveling as it is a very cool looking place at about 5 minutes from the Nevsky perspective, not so much for one person, unless you speak Russian!
Amazing city and a sweet hostel
Lee Fon 30/11/2013 00:15I stayed here in September and since then I stayed at a to of places around Europe and this was one of the places I really liked, sweet graphics on the wall and cool music playing everywhere., clean and the staff were friendly and relaxed. There was a small once-off mixup with my room when I arrived but nothing that couldn't happen anywhere, but once I talked with the manager he sorted it out, found me a bed and I was more than happy with how they dealt with it. It was in a good location too, easy to stop back at the hostel before going back out again.
Saint Petersburg is one of my favourite cities I have ever visited and if I return which I hope to, I would definitely come stay here again.
Is ok
Pau Lon 06/04/2013 17:30The hostel is near the metro stop, but not really close to the centre. When we arrive there we have to wait a long time (2 hours) to find someone of the staff (we still don't know who was working there and who wasn't). The hostel is nice, they have a big kitchen and a cool living room. The rooms are ok, but the beds are too small (really small) and the people who has an upper bed was afraid to turn and fall. They were under reconstruction when we come.
For that price, is quite good
Cool place
323DS323on 04/04/2013 20:06One of the best hostels I have visited. It really is like the photos with quirky modern decoration throughout. Everything was clean, and the wifi was free. The location is pretty good, about 15 minutes' walk from Nevsky Prospekt or 7 minutes' walk from the nearest metro. The entrance is actually at the back of a courtyard accessed from a gate on the street.
The only caveat is that it took them 2 weeks to provide a visa invitation and when it came it contained some mistakes.
